The surveying party of the proposed Onslow Railroad started out this morn ing with their equipments to survey the route. . Notwithstanding the extreme heat of yesterday the weather last night and early this moring was decidedly coo for the season. Ger. barque Julie, Mullen, cleared to-day for Wolga3t, Ger., with 210,437 feet lumber, va'ued at $1,08, shipped by Mr. W. Walters. We trust that our county will be wel represented at the Fair of the Fruit Grower's Association, which will con yene at Goldsboro on the 30th inst. Rev. J. P. Lennon will preach at Brooklyn Hall to night, services com mencing at 8 o clock. He 'will also preach at the same place on Wednes day and Thursday nights. Willis Richardson, colored, was brought before the Mayor this morning ehanred with disorderly conduct. He was fined $50 for the offense. Wilson Hooper, colored, was charged with being the owner of a disorderly house. Judgment ;was suspended in his case. v Climatic. The'rainfali during the month ended June 30th. 1831. amounted to 7 inches 91-100." Thegreatest temperature dur insr the month was 89.7. on the 2lst. The lowest was 51, on the 2nd. Phc mean temperature for the month was 73,9. She prevailing wind was South and its greatest velocity was 21 miles, on the 25th. 4 Pounded. Some of the members of the Fifth Street M, E. Church went to the house of the pastor, Rev. Mr. Hull, last night and vfairly stormed his premises with good things, whic ho suffered with as much grace as could be .expected. He has been a great sufferer and is yet m feeble health, although somewhat ini proved, ami he appreciated the warm- icartcd sympathy of his congregation in thus ministering to his comfort. To Washington City. The Grand Excursion for Washing ton City will leave here on Monday next. There will be three cars reserved or the exclasive use of whites and hese will be under the charge of Mr. ?. Ileinsberger, of whom ticket?, which aro only S7 each, may bo obtained. C Sick in .Baltimore. ; We regretWery much to hear of the serious illness of Mrs. James A. Wil lard. of Baltimore, recently of this city. All that is known is through the medi um ot a telegram received here yester day stating that she was very ill and calling for a relative here to go to her bedside. No further news was receiv ed to-day and it is earnestly hoped that the condition of the sick lady has im proved. ' For the Mouutaius. A delegation from Sampson county, consisting of Judge A. A. McKoy, Rev. J. L. Stewart, Col. L. A. Powell, Capt J. R. Beam an and A. F.Johnson, Esq. arrived in the city last night. Their mission was to consult with the authorities of the Wilmington & Weldon Railroad, with a view to the construction of a branch road from Warsaw to Clinton. Tney naa a con ference with the Railroad officials this forenoon and the result was as favor able as they could expect., A survey o tne proposed road will be ordered in the course of a week or two. Board of Aldermen. The Board met yesterday afternoon, in regular monthly session, present, His Honor E. D. Hall, Mayor, and Alder men DeRosset, Boney, Bear, Dudley and Howe. The Finance committee made a ver bal report as to their action in the mat ter of the lot3 on Dock street, sold to Mr. Latimer for hotel purposes.! The committee on Streets and Wharves, to whom the communicatio11 of O. G. Parsley with reference to the wall on Ann street wa3 referred, re ported that "the case is- not one re quiring the action of the city, and beg to be discharged." Adopted. The committee on Fire Departmet submitted the report of the Chief of the Fire Departmet. Alderman DeRosset moved that the action of the Chief of the Firo Depart ment. in not equiping the Hose Reel Company, be approved for, the reason given by him, and further action bo suspended for the present. Motion lost. The committee presented the claims of J. II. Hanbyand J. F. Post against theLittle Giant Engine Company, when, on motion, the matter was re ferred to the committee on Finance with power to act. The petition ot T. F. Bagley to open Wooster street from Front to Surry, was, on motion, reierreg to tne com mittee on Sttreets and Wharyes with power to act. The petition of C. M. Galloway and others, for a light atjthe corner of Ninth and Orange streets, was not granted, here beinz no appropriation for ' the same. i The petition of II. Von Glahnto erect a shingle roof building on Second, be ween Mulberry and Walnut street, was received." Alderman DeRosset moyed that the petition be not granted. - Alderman Dudley moved that the petition be granted. Adopted. The monthly .report of the Superin tendent of Health was received and or dered on file. . TUESDAY. JULY 8, Fine Fruit. Mr. H, Alderman, of Pt. Caswell, gave us the pleasure of a call this morn ing and left upon our table some of the finest apples we have seen this "prear They were raised on the farm of his father Air. Owen Alderman, Hear Pt. Caswell, and were of two varieties the J une Sweeting, a deep red, and a striped apple with no special name. Both were .very beautiful in appearance and finely flavored. In a Blaze. 4 A cou pie of young gentlemen were sealediast njght in the room of one of them, on the. corner of Front and Mar ket streets, when by some accident the lamp was turned over and the kero sene running out wa3 at once ignited and for a few moments there was dan ger of a serious fire. The flames, how ever, were speedily extinguished by the young men, doing no further damage than to break a lamp and create a big scare. County Commissioners. The regular monthly meeting of the Boardof County Commissioners was held yesterday afternoon, present, II. A. Bagg, Esq.; Chairman, and Com missioners Pearce, Moore and Mont gomery, j The Treasurer submitted bis report for June, as follows : General fund, balance on hand $ 13,330.21 Educational fund, balance on hand.. . 14,554.93 Of the general fund the sura of $6, 665 is in the form of a certificate of de posit in the First National Bank. The Register of Deeds submitted his report of fees received for marriage li censes for the month of June, amount ing to $14.25, and exhibited the Treas urer's lecejpt for the same, which was received and ordered on file. Thejcnalter of convicts for larceny at the County Work House was ordered to be left to the Chairman to make such disposition of as may seem to be to the best interests of the county. lhe iollowmg jurors were drawn to serve at the August term of the Crimi nal Court: i John. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, arrived in tne city last nignc and regis tered at the Purcell House. Mr. J. T. Collins, of Burgaw, who is here to-day, gives very encouraging reports ot the crops in his locality. There has been a great deal of rain, but no serious dam ago has resulted. Ex-Judge George V. StroDg, of Raleierh. arrived in the city this morns ing. He will go hence to Wrights vilie Sound where will remain about a month to enjoy the . invigorating breezes of the ocean, at the residence ot his son-in-law, Norwood Giles, Esq, From Ml H. Vollers, of Point Cas well, who was also in the city to-day, we are glad to learn that although there ha3 been a great deal of rain in that section yet that thus far no serious in- ury has been sustained and that the crop prospects continue very bright. Mr. John H. Clark, of Clarkton. was in the city to-day, and we are sor ry to learn that the recent, rams have very seriously affected the crop pros pects in his neighborhood. There were very heavy xains there last Sunday and they left pools of water in the low places in the fields which have resulted in parching the roots of the corn and cotton and thereby causing avery seri ous injury. Among other matters it was de cided that the Society should make an exhibit at which all the early and late plans of the city should be placed in order to show its development, accom panied by photographs of - places and buildings of historic interest. 'All per sons who feel an interest in the matter and are willing to help the object are invited to communicate with Mr. E- S. Martin, the President of; the Society. The Society was divided into sections as indicated' by us in yesterday's f issue. The meeting vas fully attended and much interest was manifested in the importance of the work. Dr. f hos. F. Wood fas appointed essayist 'for the next regular meeting, which wjll be held early in; August.
