At 2 o'clock p. m. yesterday the alarm of fire wa3 given, caused by the burning of the manufactory of the "Raleigh Cotton Gin Com pany," on the N. C. R. R ."Hear tee lower end ot Fayelte Ville street. The building wa.3 of wood, two stories high, about 50x25 feet. Ad joining it was a long wooden shed. The machinery was operated by a 24-horse power engine. The manufaciory was entirely destroyed; a portion of tho shed was saved, as were also numerous small buildings, .mostly dwellings, near by. Some of the cotton gin3 were re moved from the burning building and saved. The loss to the Cotton Gin Company will be covered by $1,500. Fayetteville Observer: From the farmers near town and those living at a distance in the country, also from tie farmers of llarmit. Bladen, Sampson, Robeson, Richmond, Moore. Chatham, and other counties, we hear the most encouraging reports about crops. They say that the prospects for corn and cot ton are belter thau they have been for years.
