That is another ot the results of the disastrous fire on Fri day morning last. llobesonian: It is with sadness that we chronicle the death of Mr. Daniel Hfister. of Iiladen coun y. who died at his residence on tbe morning of the 2nd init. of bilious colic, at the age of i0 lie was confined but a few hours, be suffered the mott horrible pain but bore it with Christian fortitude. Shoe Heel Print: We learn that Mr Evn D. Cameron, of Laurinburg, has iiiven un the practice of law, and is studying for the ministry. We had the pleasure ot spending Saturday nisht last in the country, at Plummer- vilie. with our clever friend, Mr. Mur plf y McNair. He has a fine plantation of over three hundred acres, most ot which is under cultivation, and the crops will show that the land is good. He has a lot containing 10 acres from which he will doubtless pick 20 bales of cotton. Eayetteville Sun: Rev. F. II, Wood has shown us a running pea vine (field pea raised by him in his garden) which measured twenty feet in length. It was thought that a measurement of all the lateral branches added to the length of the main stem would aggregate one hundred feet, Several days ago President Gray, of the C. F. & Y. V. II. R.,.in company with Hon. Geo. M. Rose, of this place, attorney for the road, went on business to Bennettsville, South Carolina. On their return home they made a short, stop at Shoe Heel. While there the band serenaded them and called on Col, Gray lor a speech. The Colonel responded by saying that he was no speaker, but that Mr. Rose wa3 employed by him to do his talkiug and that hedoubtles3 was prepared to entertain the crowd: whereupon Mr. Rose made a talk, in which he review- ed the works of Col. Gray, lauding him in swelling eulogy throughout, lhis brought President Gray to h s feet io explanation ; that Mr. Rose wa3 not em ployed to make that kind of a speech The whole thing wua very amusing. We must say, however, that Mr. Rose was the victor that time. Charlotte Observer: Information reached us yesterday, of the killing last Saturday, in Itcvan county, uear the Iredell line, of a negro brute named George Johnston, by a party of men who were trying to effect his capture One day the past week Johnston went io the home of au aged white lady, who lived near Mooresville, in Iredell coun ty, and took advantage of her lonely condition to as ault her. News of the affair Lecoming known, large parties of neighbors set out in search of the negro. Saturday a party of men came upon him He relused to surs render and was shot dead. A few days ago, Mr. George Howie. a citizen of Pineville, in this county. suffered a disastrous loss through the incendiary torch, losing his fine steam grist mill and cotton gin. The burned ouildings were located on Mr. Howie a farm 'in Union couuty, S. C, just across the Mecklenburg line. That it was the work of incendiaries, there was no doubt, so our informant tells us. We could not learn the amount of Mr. Howie's insurance, if any. Mr. Howie is a worthy citizen, and is to be sympathized with in his loss. In the Superior Court yesterday morn ing the suit of F. E. Patrick, against the Richmond & Danville Railroad Company, lor $8,000 damages, was called for trial. A number of years ago Mr. Patrick was superintendent ol : he cotton compress in this city. The compress was located on tbe depot nlatform and at a certain time. Mr. Patrick was notified to move it. He tailed to comply with the notice and he railroad company proceeded to move it for him. Hence his suit for damages. Patrick was represented by Jones & Johnston, while Bur well & Walker, Fab. IJ. Butbee and T. R Robertson appear for the railroad. The h'urinj; of the testimony in the case wil' be resumed this morning. News and Cbserver: The farmeis have abandon d all hope for late corn. The drought I as slaugtered it. Eveiy day now ihe cotton is being damageo. The cropects tor rain are dim. Three persons jojned the Second Bap tist church on Sunday morning, and at night a young gentleman was baptised by the pastor, -Rev. Mr. Gwaitney. At the church of the Sacred Heart, Suntiay morning, a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary was unveiled. It is lifesizeandstands beside tho altar. An interesting revival of religion is in progress near tbe lair ground, con duetad by W. R. Dicks and D. McLeod, of the Second Baptist church. A letter from Asbeville says that Mr. C. M. Williams, the leading stationer and bookseller there, died suddenly. He -was a prominent Baptist, having been for years secretary and treasurer of the Western Baptist Association. Messrs. C. M.
