In an opinion just published the Gen eral term of the Supreme Court in this city anirms the following principles touching the rights and liabilities of married women in this State: First A married woman doiug busi ness on her own account may employ her husband at a stated salary. Second The husband cannot enforce the payment ot his salary by an action against his wife. Third The husband may assign hi3 cluru, and the assignee may sue the wife. i?ourth A creditor of the husband may maintain legal proceedings against the wife to get possession of any unpaid salary due him.iv. The fuel In the stoye makes the room warm. but there are great piles ot lallen trees lying on rocks and on tope of hills where nobody can get them : these do not m'ake anybody warm. You might freeze to death for want of wood in plain sight of these fallen trees it you had no mean3of getting the wood home and making a hre of it. Just so ma family; love is what makes the parents and children, brothers and justers hap py tsut it tney take care care never to say a word about it, if they keep it a profound secret as it it were a crime, they will not be much happier than If there was not any love among them the house will seem cool even in sum roer, and if you live there you will envy the dog when any one calls him poor fellow. Hill of LadiDgr Agreements. The opinion rendered by the United States Supreme Court last week in the case of Hart against the Pensylyania Railroad ComDany settles a point of much practical interest to shippers. Hart had shipped hve horses undr bill of lading which limited the liability of the company to two hundred dollars for each horse lost or injured through the company's Degugence. In a suit to recover for the loss of the animals Hart alleircd they were raco horses, whose actual value was far beyond the yam ation stated in the bill of lading, and he claimed that the company was lia ble for the lull value, lhe bupreme Court decides otherwise. It holds that where the conditons of the bill of lad ing are knowingly ana willingly ac ceDted bv the shipper the company is not liable beyond the valuation agreed upon. The question is not what the value of the loit property may be, but what valuation has been mutually nxed in the bill of lading. N. Y, Herald. "The Good Old Times." The Uei. Dr. Talmage lectured last evening in the Thirty-third Street Bap list Church on the subject "Is the World Better or Worse?" In the course of his remarks he said : "I once asked mymther, Is the world very much worse now than it used to be?' 4 Well,1 said he. with a twinkle in his eye, 4the fact is that the world was nevir any better than it ought to be." Laugh ter.l People say, "Look at the Church to-day V Why riirht opposite the church in Snmerville, N. ; J., there is a hotel, and here in former times.
