Senator Sherman wants to pension a lot of his creatures, now department clerks, by having them appointed as extra clerks in the Senate when they are reformed out of vheir present posi" tions. Steam boatmen report about 10 feet of water on the shoals in the Cape Fear, with the river rising slowly. Best,: pastor of the Baptist Church at Masonboro, will preach at Brooklyn Hall to-night at the usual hour. The Dime Museum Company has done cone and left te city. They showed Saturday, but yesterday they quietly packed up their "'traps" and left on last night's South bound train. Good Work. One of the beer wagons, belonging to Mr. R. Portner's agency in this city has recently been repainted in a most artistic manner. The work was done by Mr. Jame3 Murray, of this city, and will compare favorably with any of the I painting sent out from large establish ments at the North Magistrate's Court. David Brown, colored, was brought before Justice E. D. Hall this morning charged with stealing bale of hay and a bag of corn, the property of Messrs. Worth & Worth. He acknowledged the corn (aud hay also) and was bound over to the present term of the Crimi nal Court in the rum of $100, in default of which he was committed. Chicken Stealing. It was a policeman this time. Offi cer Wni. Martin, living on Fifth street, between Church and Castle, is the lat est sufferer from the depredations of chicken thieves. Some of the fraterni ty stole seven chickens from him last night, and the scamp crawled under the house to get them. Mr. Martin is of the opinion tbat the thief was a woman as the tracks were too small and slim to be made by a man. K.ofP. Mr. W. L. Jewett, Grand Master-at Arms of the North Carolina Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias, left here this morning for Raleigh to be in a tendance upon the annual meeting o the Grand Lodge which will be held in that city to-morrow. Mr. J. L. Dudley, Grand Keeper of Records and Seal?, and Mr. J. G. L. Gieschen will leave for the same place and purpose tc-night. The first two represent Stonewall Lodge, No. 1. K. of P., and the last named represents Germania Lodge No. 4, &. of P. Daily Review. Citv Court. At that time Scott asked for a continuance to eive him an opportunity of securing the services of a lawyer and grt'ing bis witnesses, and the hearing in the case was put off until this morning, when he was brought before the Mayor tor trial. He had neither lawyer nor wit nesses. and the Mayor, after bearing the testimony, imposed a fine of $5 for the offense, when Sco't appealed, bat subsequently changed his mind and settled up. William Campbell, colored, for dis orderly conduct in the "Hollow" cn Saturday night, was fined $5 for the offense.
