A large lump of ore was found about the size ol a hen's egg and containing fully 75 per cent of silver. It is rumored that the widow of Tom Thumb is soon to be married again. The happy man, it is said, will be "Count Rosebud," one of the Magri brothers, who were on exhibition re cent ly. The wedding will be of a private nature at the widow's home, alter which they will go on a six months' bridal tour through Europe. The prospectus has been issued ot the I 'minis, Athens & Peloponnesian Rail way. It will, when completed, have a total length of 4d0 kilometres, of which 67 kilometres are now open and at work. Milton Nobles plays only in three towns in North Carolina. These are Wilmington, Raleigh and Goldsboro, and in the order named. The Company goes from Goldsboro direct to Norfolk. To-morrow week is Ash-Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season. It is observed in the Lutheran, Roman Catholic and Episcopal churches, and ends on Easter Sunday, which falls this year on the 5th of April. The 23d inst will be the 200th anni versary of the birthday of Handel, the great composer. Lip pitt has been appointed State Agent of the Provident Savings Ite Assurance Society of New York, of wbich the noted actuary, Sheppard Homans, is President. James G Kenan has been appointed sheriff of D jplin county to fill the vacancy oc casioned by the recent registration of William M. Hurst Maj. Kenan is a brother of ex-Attorney-General Thom as S. Kenan and Capt. W. R. Kenan, of this city. He is a man of fine busi ness capacity and will perform the onerous duties pertaining to the shriev alty with fidelity.
