Laura had the worst of it, for j she was banged (not with the fashion able bangs, however) about the head and eyes so badly that she could hardly see, while the gin bottle had made no perceptible mark upon Julia's cranium. It is with great regret that we leant of the extreme illness of Mr. Edward Kidder, one of the oldest, most enter prising and most highly esteemed citi zens of Wilmington. He has been sick but a very short liuoo. a few days only, in fact, and to many the first intima tion of his being sick at all, came in the startling and distressing news t'jat he was at the point of death. Even now, as we write, hi3 kindly spirit is h verii.g over the very vert-oof liv 3,7 riTH the ink upon our D3per is dry. It wil' I .1 1 I I id. l .1 I : have winged its flight over the un- known sea to rest in brighter, happier, and more peaceful scenes than these. Mr. Kidder, as we have said, has been ili for but a few days and it was only last week that lie was seen and met with in his accustomed business haunts as if but two-score instead of four-score years had passed over his head. His attack was, we have heard, jaundice and it was not thought that lie was in great bodily danger until this morning, at 1 o'clock, when a fearful change for the worse took place, the heart having become affected. It was goon seen that his days were numbered although all that loving kindness and care and skill could do was done to re lieve him. Mr. Kidder was born, we have heard, in Boston, in the latter part of the year 1804 which places him now in bis 82nd year. He came to Wilmington when a young man, now about GO years ago, and has resided here ever since. His has been an actiyo life and it has been crowned with much success. He has been long known and identified with the best interests of Wilmington and has been recognised as one of our most pub He-spirited and enterprising citizens. His benefactions have been extensive and varied yet have never been parad ed before the public eye and there are many grateful hearts in this communi ty to-day which have prayed that ho might yet be spared for a few years longer. If the young men who call to see their girls these long winter evenings, do not wish to be met on the steps with the words, "Miss Laura is sick with a cold and can't I e seen," they would better keep her well supplied with Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup. The Boy Clipper Plow has earned a reputation of being the best ever used and are pronounced perfect by tho best farmers.
