It will be a serious blew to our city, and to devise means to counteract the evil should be a prime consideration with our citizens, and to do this sue cessfully we know of no better method than to make our city inviting and in teresting to the traveling public. It is a well ascertained (&c that our climate is much preferable for invalids than is that of Jacksonville and other resorts in Florida. The water here is better and purer; we are not troubled with the myriads of annoying insects which infest that State; so that if we would bayea share of tbe patronage of travel it only remains Ito be known that we have accommodations and comforts equal, if not superior, to those offered in Florida. A large, roomy and commodious hotel is needed, and that should be built, furnished, adycitised and opened for the accommodation of the traveling public before the proposed cut off has shortened the distance to FloriJa If the hotel is built before tbe cut off is completed, thousands of travelers will know the fact and will avail themselves of its advantages. If it is not built until after the completion ol the cut off it wili take years lor the public to learn and appreciate its many advantages. It is human nature to folio wjt he crowJ, and unless the citizens of Wilmington go to work in earnest to draw the crowd here before the distance to Flor ida is shortened, thev will have hard work to draw it here alter that enter prise is completed. The foregoing thoughts were suggest ed by a conversation recently with one of Wilmington's best and most pros perous merchants, and we think that tbey are important and worthy tbe most careful consideration of our people.
