Moore, who has been in Raleigh for some days past, returned to the city last night. Mr. Duiiley Mcllhenny has returned to the city after several months absence 'n cities to tho South of us. Mr. L. Taylor has returned here troni Jacksonvide, Fla., where he has been engaged in business for the past four months. Messrs. E G. Blair and John Mor rison returned to the city last night from the inauguration trip. Maj. C. W. McClammy, ot Pender county, also re turned at the same time. Mr. W. E King, formerly ot the firm of F. M. King & Co., who remov ed with his brother to Anniston, Ala., last Fall, and who has been back hero for a mouth or more, has finally con cluded that Wilmington is as good a field for an enterprising man as any other to be found in the South and has opened at his old business on Princess street, near Water, where we wish bim a plentiful success. The Explosion. Mr. J. D. L Smith, engineer of the steamer Wave, gave us the pleasure pf a call yesterday atternoon, and from him we gather tbe following further particulars regarding the explosion of the boiler of tbat ill fated boat. He had been to the boiler and had just left it when tLe explosion took place. The glass was two-thirds full of water, which was sufficient There were 80 pounds of steam on at the time. The boiler bad been U3ed but a few years, had never been used in salt water and had a tendle strength of 50.000 pounds. Such was the force of the ex plosion that it blew off the top of the mast of a schooner near by at a distance of seventy-five feet from the deck ; and one of the Hues ot the boiler was subsequently found on the top of one of tho warehouse in the vicinitv. Fart of the steamer's cabin- became detached and floated down the river yesterday afternot-n. Men were cinplosed all of yesterday in saving what they could fiom the wreck and succeeded in saving a congiderable amount of furniture, bedding ic. The men who were wounded are doing well and will soon be about their du ties. Mr. Smith has had ten j ears ex perience as an engineer upon th. Cape Fear. A Wilniingtouian's Success. Kelley, now one ot the most prosperous merct ants of Birmingham, but a Wil mingtonian, born and bred: Mr. George C. Kelley 'a three story building on Second avenue, between Nineteenth and Twentieth streets, is completed. The handsome front (the only one of its kiad in tbe city) attracts considerable attention. The lower floor is closed by the Wilson's patent rolling doors; the second and third floors have fronts of solid French plate glass. The iron work was made by Mr. C. P. The receipts of the crop year to date foot up 92,319 bales, against 68 784 bales to same date last year , an increase this yoar of 3,535 bales. Indications For the South Atlantic States, fair weather in the Southern portion, part ly cloudy weather and local rains in the Northern portion, nearly stationary temperature, except in the interior, slightly warmer weather, variable winds, generally shifting to Westerly, and falling barometer. . Three Terms. The committee on Judiciary Reform of the General Assembly have given New Hanorer county three terms of the Superior Cocrt, of two weeks each, as follows: Fir9t term to commence on the sixth Monday before the first Monday In March ; the second term to commence the sixth Monday after the first Monday in March; the third term to commence tbe third Monday after the first Monday in September. The new law will go into effect June 15th, 1885. A Joint Meeting. A joint meeting of the Board of Com missioners and Board of Magistrates of New Hanover County was held at the Court House in this city at U o'clock this forenoon, Dr W. W. Harriss called the meet ing to order and directed a call of the roll, when it was found that 25 Magis trates and Commissioners were pres? ent. making a quorum. The Chairman, Dr. W. W. Harriss, stated the object of lbe meeting to be to consider tbe salary to be paid to the Solicitor of the Criminal Court in addi tion to his regular fees, in accordance with a recent act of the Legislature, establishing the Criminal Court Circuit of New Hanover and Mecklenburg oounties, and requiring the Solicitors of the court to examine the books and papers of the different coun ty officers as often as once in every three months, a duty which has hereto fore been performed by tbe Solicitors of the Superior Courts, it was for this service that the salary was to be fixed. After stating the object of the meeting the chair read the law establishing the Court, which vas passed at the present session of the Legislature, and then do dared the meeting open for busioess. Col. Roger Moore moved that the So licitor be allowed $100 per annum, in addition to his regular fees, and the mo tion was carried unanimously. The meeting then adjourned. At one time this forenoon the weath er vane on the market house pointed almost due East while at the same mo ment that oyer lhe Signal Office indi cated almost North.
