The rain and wind of last night left the atmosphere much cooler this morn ing. There were two interments in Belle vue Cemetery this week one adult and one child. Schr. Fannie Tracey, Tilton, from thi3 port, arrived at New York on tho 2nd inst. Shad sold tosday at 50 cents and $1 per pair, the former for buck and tbe latter for roe shad. There were five interments in Pine Forest Cemetery this week threo adults and two children. The Register of Deeds isslacd six marriage licences this week, two of were wero lor white and four for colored couples. Baptism will be administered to morrow night in tbe First Baptist Church, after the sermon, by the Pas tor, Rev. Dr. Pritchard Eggs have advanced in price alter a few days when they were sold at reasonable figures. They were selling to-day for 15 cents per dozen. The Wizard Oil company, who have travelled iu nearly every portion of tbe State, will soon visit tbis city. They expect to arrive here on the 13th inst. All in need of a Canary or Mocking Bird Cage, will do we'l to call at J a cobi's Hardware Depot, and examine his large and fine stock. Easter eggs, beautifully painted by hand, can be furnished in any quantity desired by leaving orders at either of the book store or at this office. Prices low. Messrs. W. E. Davis & Son's fish ing schooner, the Dreadnought, arrived here this forenoon from the fishing banks with five sea turtles and 3,000 blackfish and snappers. The Legislature established I9 cents per acre as the price hereafter to be paid on 1 mds that may be entered ; and 15 cents per acre where one enters more than lQ0 acrts Swamp lands arc ex cepted. Joseph McGuire, colored, was brought before Mayor Hall this morn ing charged with disorderly conduct for which h8 was required to pay a fine of $5 or go below for 10 days. He went below. Exports Foreign. Schr. diaries E.Paige, Gifford clear ed to day for Portau-Prince. Hayti, with 207,000 feet loinber and 55,500 shingle?, valued at $2,850. shipped by Messrs. Northrop & Cummiag. Schr. J. P.. Wyman, Torrey, cleared also for Port au-Prince. Hayti. with 131,593 feet lumber and 50.000 shingles, valued at $2,394.79. shipped by master, mak ing a total of exports foreign amounting to $5,244.79. Yesterday. Good Friday was quite generally observed throughout the business por tion of the city. Many of the foreign vessels in port wero decorated with' fiag3 in honor of the day. The produce exchange, the banks and many of the business houses were closed, and the streets had a Sunday appearance. The usual services were held at the Episco pal, Catholic and Lutheran Churches, and they were quite interesting. Skating Sport. The Opera House Skating Rink will be opened to the public next Monday night for the first time. The floors for skating have been put down and are in first rate order for those who would enjoy the exhilarating sport. The Opera House Orchestra will furnish tbe music, and Mr. C. D. Willson, the manager, will do all in his power for the accommodation, comfort and pleasure of his patrons. Tbe admission has been placed at only 25centp, which is cljeap enough. Tbe N. C. Medical Journal. The March uumber of this valuable magazine has been received and is fully up iu excellence to any of its pre decessors. Among the many impor tant things contained iu lh number be fore us is the recently amended law concerning the North Carolina Board of Health and the law regulating tbe prac lice of medicine in this State. These laws arc works of legislation which should be generally read and under stood, not only by the medical profes sion, but by those in non-professiona life as well. The law regulating tbe practlce of medicine in the State forms. j the subject of a well consided editorial article. The law itself is a wholesome enactment, and one which will receive the hearty approval of the faculty. Bodies Found. On Thursday afternoon tbe body ot a colored woman was seen floating in tbe river opposite the city. The Coroner was notified and the body was identified as Ibat of Kitty llaryy, the stewardess of the ill-fated steamer Wave. An in quest was held and the remains interred by Coroner Jacobs. Yesterday the body of James Sted man, colored, another victim of tbe explosion of the boiler of the Wave, was discovered floating in the river and was taken charge of by tbe Coroner. The remains were fully identified by persons who were well acquainted with tbe deceased. An iu quest will be held on Wednesday next, that day beiog se lected in order to give witnesses living in KayeUeville time to attend. The body of Neil Jessup is stil missing. The Hibernian Benevolent Associa, tion of this city will give their regular annual ball at Germania Hall on Mon day night , the 6th inst. The committee of arrangements consists of Messrs. T. Donlan, D Quinlivau, L. Flanagan, Jas. Corbett. John M. Donlan aud Wm. Sheeban, and they are making every effort to have the occasion pass off delightfully. There will be excellent music for the dancers and refreshments will be served at city prices. The Hibernians have always succeeded in making their dancing parties pleasant and enjoyable and there is every pros pect for a splendid entertainment next Monday night. Joint Meeting:. Pursuant to call a joint raeetiDg of the Board of Commissioners and Board of Magistrates of New Hanover county was held in tbe City Court Room at the City Hall, at 11 o'clock this fore noon, with W. W. Harriss, J. P., in the Chair. All of the commissioners and twenty-five of tbe magistrates were pregent. The Chairman, upon calling tbe as sembly to order, stated tbe object of tho meeting and called upon Mr. H. A. Bagg, Chairman of the Board of Com missioners, to make a statement to those present of the matter of tho con templated bridge across Smith's Creek. Mr. Bagg, who is entirely familiar with the necessity and plans of such a struc" ture, made the necessary explanation, after which quite a number of coin-aiu-nications from parties from various scc- I ticis of the county desiring to put in Estimates for tho construction of the bridge were read and discussed pro and con. Tbe following resolution was them offered and unanimously adopted: Resolved. That the Justices of the Peace, a majority beins present, concur with the recommendation of tbe Coun ty C jmmissioners in the necessity ot construction of an iron bridge across Smith's Creek, and hereby give to tbe County Commissioners all the authority vested in tbe Justices of Peace by law for that purpose. The Chairman of the Board of Com missioners stated to tbe meeting that the County Commissioners had made a levy for the county under schedules B and C, and asked that the Board of Jus tices confirm the levy made, the same being ill accordance with the require ments of taw. By request the levy was read when upon motion ot Mr. 'JI. A. Bagff, Chair man of tbe Board of Commissioners, the tax levy made by the Board on the 23d of March. 1885. under the Revenue Act, was confirmed. On motion the meeting adjourned.
