A dispatch was received here this
morning from Aberdeen, Miss., con
veying the melancholy intelligence tbat
Dr. S. S. Everett, formerly of this city,
had died in that town. There were no
particulars further than the mere an
nouncement of his death. Dr. Everett
was, we believe, about 47 years of age.
His family are in this city, and the sad
news muse be an almost overwhelming
shock to them.
Happy Hearts.
Tbe wedding bells pealed out quite
merrily last night for tbe weeding of
Miss Mary E. Willis, daughter of Capt.
H. B. Willis, and Mr.Chas. D. Jacobs,
all of this city. The ceremony was
performed at the residence by Rev. Dr
Iewis. Rector of St. James' Parish.
The house was thronged with relatives
"of the youthful couple and other invited
guests. The presents were numerous
and tastefully displayed. It was not
till midnight approached tbat the guests
took their farewell of tbe gallant groom
and his beautiful bride.
Tickets, Gentlemen.
Tbe grand drawing of tbe Louisiana
State Lottery Company, at New Or

place as advertised, and with tbe follow
ing result :
Ticket No. 59,075 drew the grand
prize of 75,000; No. 55,818 drew
$25,000; No. 64,580 drew $10,000; Nos
6,570 and 29,671 drew $6,000 each, and
Nos. 22.457. 50,519, 57.337, 71,237 and
93,057 drew $2 000 each.
We are not informed whether any of
the above numbered tickets were held
in this vicinity or not, but we imagine
when the figures are read to-night that
many a ticket will be examined to see if
the holders can be reckoned among tbe
lucky ones. Some may console them
selves with having a ticket coming

The United States Light House
Board, of which Stephen C. Rowan.
Vice-Admiral U. S. Navy, is Chair
man, have recently issued two circulars
or bulletins, which are ot importance
to seamen navigating the coast of North
Carolina. Th first of these is as fol
lows: Notice is hereby that the Roanoke
River Light-House, North Carolina,
was destroyed by fire on March 21,
1885. and that, until it is rebuilt, its lo
cation will be marked by a light shown
from a river-lantern, suspended from a
mast, 34 teet above the level of tbe sea.
By order of the Light-House Board :
Stephen C. Rowan.
Vice-Admiral U. S. Navy,
Chairman.
Tbe second relates to the mouth ot the
Cbpe Fear, and is as follows:
Notice is hereby given that, on or
about May 1, 1885. a Bell Buoy will be
moored on the outer edge of the bar,
entrance to Cape Fear River, North
Carolina, in place of tbe second-class
can buoy now there. This buoy will
rung by tbe mo ion of the sea.
By order of the Light-House Board :
Stephen C. Rowan,
Vice-Admiral U. S Navy.

Fair and Festival.
The "Peak Sisters of Alaska" will
give an entertainment and festival, for
the benefit of St. Paul's P. E. Church,
at Germania Hall to morrow (Friday)
night. Those haviug the ma'ter in
charge are perfecting arrangements and
making every possible effort to have the
entertainment a success, and from our
knowlege of some of the managers and
promoters ot the enterprise we are sure
that nothing will be left undone to
make the occasion enjoyable to visitor?
aud profitable to tbe church. It was
understood at first that tbe festival
would be bad in tbe ball over the new
market and it was so announced bul
the place has been changed as above
indicated. If pleasant weather should
prevail and we nope it may there
will undoubtedly be a full boose. Peo
ple wdl have a cariosity to see the
Peak Sisters and will go for that par
pose, if for no other reason. We
have seen one of them and that speci
men was tolerably fair, rather fat, bat
not yet forty. They mast be seen to
be appreciated.

Military Convention.
There will be a jailttary convention
in this city, on the 25th inst . of dele
gates from the several commands of the
Second Regiment, tor the purpose of
considering such measures as shall best
conduch to the strength, appearance,
drill and efficiency of the command.
Another Burglary.
A burglar stole a pair of trousers a
few nights since from the residence of
Mr. E. T. Snden, on Mulberry street,
between McKae and Ninth. The cloth
ing was hanging up by the side of a
window near which Mr. Suden was
sleeping, and the thief effected his ob
ject by removing a pane of glass and
inserting a stick with a hook upon cn;
end ot it. Money was evidently all the
burglar wanted as the trousers were
found the next morning on the piazza,
with the pockets turned inside out.
Mr. Suden has been made a victim on
previous occasions and these midnight
visits have become unpleasantly
frequent.
In Distress.
The schooner Regulator, Capt. Lewis,
from Elizabeth City, N. C, with corn,
bound for Charleston, S. C, put in here
to-day in distress, having lost the top
of both of her masts, on Friday last in
consequence ot tho heavy " sea, which
broke them about 10 feet below tbe
cross trees. Capl. Lewis reports that
he came out of Beaufort, N. Cat 8
o'clock on Friday morning lsst; that
there was a stiff breeze blowing at tbe
time and a very heavy sea, which
caused the schooner to pitch heavily.
At about 10 o'clock a. m., and when
about 15 miles Southwest of Beaufort,
the vessel pitched so heavily that the
foremast was snapped off and tbat
caused the mainmast to break also. All
the spars and rigging were saved ex
cept the portions ot tbe masts which
were broken oft".

Twenty-Fourth Anniversary.
It is 24 years to-day since tbe first
overt act looking towards secession was
taken in North Carolina. On April 16tb,
1861, three companies of North Caro
lina troops, the Wilmington Light In
fantry, Capt. W. L. DeRosset, the
Wilmington Rifle Guards, Capt, O,
P. Meares, and the Cape Fear Light Ar"
tillery, Capt. Jno. J. Hedrick. all under
the command ofCol . Jno. L Cantwell, of
the 30th Regiment N. C. Militia,
embarked for Forts Johnson and
Caswell. Major James Reilly, then
a Sergeant in the U. S. Army, was in
charge and at the demand made upon
him he surrendered theforts into the
possession of the State troops. Capt.
Hedrtck, with his command, was left
to garrison Fort Johnson and tho other
companies steamed oyer to Fort Cas
well and took possession there in the
name of the State.
