Ex-Representative Broadhead has left Washington for Paris, France, where as special Government aeent, he will examine tbo records ot the prize Courts in search of information in connection, with the French spoliation claims. The secre tary of State has received information from tbe UnitedStates minister at Paris that the prelim inary legal proceeding in award cases will cost at least $10 in each case. Persons in this country who are interested in the matter should make arrangements to meet such expenses. Senator Blackburn, ot Kentucky, says there is no truth in the highly colored reports of a rupture between himself and.the President. He tells the Washington Star: "I have no quarrel with tbe President nor with the Ad ministration. I trust and believe that it has no better friend nor supporter than I in all that it may do or propose that is right. I have honestly endeav ored throughout this matter to do the one thing which is both hardest and wisest tor any man to do, namely, to keep silent. I flatter myself that I have succeeded, and that jay only failure in this regard is attributable to gratuit ous utterances put in my mouth by those who could not possibly know anything of the facts. There was no witness to the interview between the President and myself ; there could be no authorized version of it given save by him of me. I have given none; I am not willing to believe that he has." President Garfield was insured for $25,000. An American who has been traveling in different parts ofEu rope for sometime writes to a London paper that socialism is stronger in the United States than in any European country. He also states that the socialists here are more aggres sive and boastful than in any country he has visited. He refers to the meet ings held in Chicago on Sunday of nearly every week as furnishing evi dence ot this state of affairs ; states that such meetings would not be allowed in any country in Europe, and thinks that ao one could be found in Paris or Berlin who would advocate the senti meats that are expressed in them. He thinks the worst classs of anarchists come to this country because they know that they will not be interfered with. A man who is not sufficiently bold to publicly advocate the use of dynamite in a city in France or Ger many comes to New York or Chicago and begins to harangue workingmen on the wrongs they suffer. He is greeted with cheers, and is encouraged to go on making inflammatory speeches. This writer thinks there will be no well-organized movement against propcrty-holders till another panic ecsues and difficulties are encountered in obtaining the, neces sities of lif e. He believes that there will then be an uprising. In hit opinion, aw abiding citizens will then ascer tain that the Socialists have a well organized army, trained in use of arms led by officers who have had military experience in foreign countries, and ready to use dynamite and other ex plosives. As we support but a very small standing army, it will be very difficult to put down such a body of men. He thinks little can be expected from local military companies in a war waged by Socialists, and refers to the riots in 1877 for evidence in support of this opinion. .a a. Can consumption be cured? GRATEFUL LETTER FROM AM OLD SOLDIER- ACUTE SALT RHEUM YIELDS TO DR. DAVID KENNEDY'S ' F AVO R 1TE REMEDY' -A YOUNG LADY'S RECOVERY. alt Rheum is the popular name for many forrs of skin disease. All have the same gen eral origin. Many of them seem almost im possible to cure. They have baffled the most scientific treatment which learned and skilled physicians have be?n able to bring to bear, one fact, however, Is now firmly sett'ed: halt Rheum, in all its varieties, is the result of a foul and diseased condition of tbe blood. Poi sonous matter, which should have been ot h erwlse got rid of is taken up and swept into circulation. Sometimes the Hrer is most at fault and sometimes the kidneys. Sometimes one part of the body is attacked and some times another Not Infrequently the whole hodv is covered with the outbreak of skin dls eae', which defies all efforts to lemove it and. remains aurins: tne me ot tne patient, uut ward applications are of little or no use as many a sufferer has found to his sorrow and cost. How to cure Salt Rheum was a perplexing puzzle to medical men until the discovery of DR. DAVID KENNEDY'S FAVORITE REM EDY, whiih masters the disease by doing awav with its cause. All sufferers and their friends should read the following letter: Worcester , Mass , 1884. Dr. D. Kennedy, Handout : ear biR: For seven months my daughter Euffered from an acute form of Salt Rheum in the head. Besides disfiguring her appearance, Abe could scarcely endure the beat and itching sensation. I resorted to Ore best physicians of this city who exhaustetf their skill without doing her any apparent good Then we turn ed to the pa" ent medicines recommen-led for Salt Rheum, and gave several of them a thor ough trial, yet they seemed to aggravate the disease instead of abating it. Last of all we tried Dr. David Kennedy's "Favorite Remedy," and am thankful to say we had no need to seek any further, for after she began to use it she improved so rapidly as to sur prise us all. Her skin soon recovered its nat ural health, look, and she is now entirely well. How can I express my gratitude to you for so wondef f ul a medicine ? You may publish this If you lite, and say all you think I ought to say in this letter. You cannot praise Dr. Da vid Kennedy's "Favorite Remedy" too highly to please me. Yours, 4c, John W.Bacon Mt.
