Schr. Isaac Oberton, Swift, hence, arrived at New York June 20th. The cool spell has passed by and the weather is now warm as Summer. Ger. barque Edward Pens, Kipr, hence, arrived at Liverpool June 19th. We noticed quite a fine display of dog collars at Jacobi's Hardware De pot. Shr. Charley Bucki, Patterson, from Bangor, Me., tor this port, arrived at Vineyard Haven June 20th. Open front shirt with plpated bosom at one dollar at the Wilmington Shirt Factory, No. 27 Market st , J. Elsbacu, Prop. tf A cat load of watermelons arrived here to-day and quite a number of our p3ople were made happy by a feast up on the luscious fruit. Secure your tickets for the excursion to the 'Rocks" on the Passport to-mor row night. There will be good moon light, good music, good company and a chance for a good shecphead supper for those who may desire it. We understand that the government work near Trenton, in Jnes county, were closed last Saturday, in conse quence ot the want of money, resulting from the failure of Congress to make appropriations. Col. S. L. Fremont who has been in charge of the work, will return to this city. Mr. II. Cronenberg, the artist, has presented us with a framed picture of a view of the contest at the Athletic Grounds on Friday last between the Seasides and the Palmettos. It was taken instantaneously and is a hand some and a slrikuw picture and it hangs on the walls of our sanctum. the oppressive heat ot to-day is a powerful reminder of the fact that it is only about eight miles from the city to Pine Grove, on Wrightsviile, Captain Manning's place, and that a moonlight excursion, per wagonetto, will leave for that place to-morrow night where a good both and a pig-fish supper await all who go. I'ersonai Our townsman, Mr. J. C. Chase, was at Springfield, Mass., on the 19th inst.,in attendance upon the fourth annual meeting ot the New England Water Works Association. By a re port of the proceedings of the Associa tion in the Springfield Republican we see that Mr. Chase took an importan and active part in the discussions of the meeting. Not Comparable. Base-ball can be compared with no other aaiusement. In horse racing it is all oyer in a couple of minutes. Then there are long, tedious wait?, which grow terribly tiresome unless you are a belting mac. But in basebal. there are eighteen trained and healthy athletes, striving for mastery. No two games wererever played alike. Each is kaleidescopic, for two hours and a half to three houres on a stretch. There will be 224 championship games play ed this summer, and between 00,000 and 700,000 people will witness them.. That shows what base-bail in, City Court. Gilbert Hancock, colored, charged with the larceny of a pair ot shoes from the store of Messrs. George R. French & Sons, last Saturday night, was the Grst case for the Mayor1 con sideration this morning. The testimony was direct and positive as to the guilt he defendant and he was required to give a bond in the sum of $75 for his appearance at the next term of the Criminal Court in default of which he was committed to jail. There were five cases of failure to pay licence tax in which judgment was suspended upon a settlement of the amount due. Call at Jacobi's Hardware Depo and examine his fine assortment o fishing poles and lines. t Wearing of tlie Ureeo. Green is to be the most fashionable summer color. Not one particular tone of green, but every shade of that many shaded color. Yellow greens, blue greens and the pale and the deepest shades are seen alike. Except in the dark tones on the very delinate tints for evening wear, there are few green dresses, but in wraps, and more par ticnaliy in bonnet3 and bats, green lit erally runs riot. Not only in green leaves and foliage of all kinds but in silk, velvet and gauze draperies of all kinds, green i3 brought out and com bined with various colors. A novelty in the way of a wrap is a bright green velvet visile lined with gold-colored satin elaborately garnished with gold and green shaded bead embroideries aBd pendants. The eflect is exceeding ly dazzling, especially as there is a bonnet matching the wrap, with a frame of gold gauze embroidered with beads, and puffed brim and strings ot green velvet, with garniture in the shape of a huge bunch of green eaves and gold grasses, with two or three bright red poppies added. Mr. Cicero .Burruss. We glean from the Norfork Virgin ian, of Saturday's date, the following particulars relative to the death of Mr. Cicero Burruss, which occurred in that city on last Friday morning: This community was painfully shock ed yesterday morning at the announce ment of the sudden dea'b of Mr. Cicero Burruss, one of the oldest aud best known citizens of Norfolk, which occur red at the residence ot his daughter, Mrs. John B Corprew. No. 129 Granby street, at 7 o'clock, Mr. Burruss retired as usual on Thursday evening, and yes terday morning arose, dressed himself and walked about. About the hour uamed be sat in a chair and immediate ly expired. The deceased wa3 born in Caroline county, Virginia. October 17, 1819, where he spent his boyhood days. He came to Norfolk in 1847, and since that time has been engaged in various busi ness enterprises, He was at one time a member ot the Common Council, and founded the banking house ot Burruss, Son & Co., from which firm he retired some time since. At the time of his death he was President of the Atlantic & Danville Railroad. He leaves two children Mrs. E. A. Corprew and Capt. Natbauiel Burruss the former with whom he had ot late lived. His funeral will be largely attended from the First Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Ocean .Breeze Waltz. Our thanks are due to the composer, Mr. I. H. Greenewald, of thi3 city, foa a copy of the above named waltz, and we acknowledge our pleasure at having heard it played by him to-day. It is, we believe, his first attempt at musical composition, and although we knew him to be a musician of marked ability, we had no idea that the faculty of origi nating and putting into shape good musical thought belonged lo him in such a marked degree. Ocean Breeze Waltz, as a musical idea, is far above mediocrity. Its harmony is good and, while it is not remarkably difficult, it will make an excellent velocity study. It begins in the key of C, moudlates to the key of F, then to B flat and closes, as it commences, in the key of C. It is arranged for the piano, but can be played on the cabinet organ by playing the passages marked for octaves as they are writteu. We hope that our young pianists and organists will secure a copy ot this really good piece of music, part y because wc would like to see genuine home talent encouraged, but mainly because the music and bar The entertainment to be given in the Opera House on Wednesday evening by the pupils of the St James' Sunday School will surely prove a pleasant oc casion to all who may attend. The lady managers have decided to charge a smali price for admission and the entertainment will be well worth the money. MAKUIED. CO.VOLET-IlTTON St. Peter's t burch, Washington. N.
