The tax must be paid dnring tbe first ten days in July. Indications For the South Atlantic States, local rains, followed by fair weather, West terly winds shifting on the Northeast ern coast to Northerly, stationary, followed by a slight fall in temperature. The banns of marriage between John G Norwood and Fanny Jackson were published at St. Mark's church yester day, and tbe interesting ceremony wilj be performed at that church at 8 o'clock p. m. on Tuesday, the 30th in3t. No cards will be issued, but the happy couple would be pleased to see all their friends at the church. The Hickory Press says: Rev. D U. Tuttle, the gifted young pastor of the Fifth Street Methodist Church, Wil mington, who is a Caldwell mau, was so much pleased with the proficiency displayed by the young ladies in art and music at Davenport College, Lenoir, that he has concluded to endow that college with a fund sufficiently large to purchase each year a gold medal, to be called the Tuttle Memorial Medal, in each of those departments. Personal Messrs J. C Horner and J. M. Hor ner, the former of Oxford and the latter La graduate of the Johns Hopkins Uni versity of Baltimore, of which he is a Fellow, are in the city, The former gentleman is the guest of Col. B. R. Moore and the latter is at the Purceli House. Base Ball. The second match game of base ball played in this city between the Seasides and Oxfords, came off on Saturday afternoon, although, on account of the rain, it was 6nished with the close of the filth inning. Tbe crowd present was larger than upon any previaus oc casion, and the excitement and enthu siasm among the spectators was. like the weather, at fever heat. The game was called promptly on time with Mr. H. Emerson as Umpire and the Ox fords at the bat. They failed, however. rto mako a single run before they were declared out and the Seasides went to the bat. The game was holly contested upon both sides, and tbe two nines were kept alternately between the bat and th field in a manner that showed that they were evenly divided in point of skill. The Oxfords were larger and more muscular men, but what the Seasides lacked in size anil strength was compensated by activity, skill and a plucky determination win. There was some NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. Harrisi. are striving to make the occasion pleasant and delightful and we be speak for them a large party. The boat will remain at the "Rocks" an I hour and a half, thus giving ample op portunity for a good supper of fish at Mrs. Mayo's and a bath in salt water. Ice Cream Festival. There will be a festival at City Hall Park to-night, commencing at 8 o'clock, at which ice cream and other seasona ble luxuries will be for sale at city p.ices. The entertainment will be for the benefit of the Cornet Concert Club, an4 it is hoped that a large crowd will be in attendance. The Club will be there and will discourse some of their best music for the pleasure of the vis itors. A small admission fee of 10 cents will be charged for those entering the Park. Absolutely Pure. Messrs W. E. Worth & Co., proprio tors of tbe ice factory, are now better prepared than ever before to supply their customers with pure ice. Their water is now obtained from a well 75 feet below the surface of tbe ground. This water has been analyzed by Dr. Wood and ha savs that it can be made absolutely pure by distillation. As al' ( of the water frjm which ice is made at the factory is distilled pure ice is necessarily the resultant. In digging the well a bed ot blue marl, 35 feet thick, was pierced, and the workmen threw out a number of petrified clams and other curiosities. A Novel Tramp. Railroad conductors have been sub ject to much annoyance on account of the tramp nuisance, and thorc is hardly a train passes over any of the leading road3 but hs to be stopped in order to get rid of some vagabond avellcr. Capt. Slocumb, of the W. & W. R. R , does not like tramps aud gives them all a ''cold bounce" whenever he finds one upon his train. Upon arriving at Faisou. coming South, a lew days since his attention was called to the platform in front of the express car where he found a tramp)inthe shape of a nice dog sitting there in the calm enjoyment of the shade and cool breeze. He had, gotten on at Goidsboro, arid finding the place altogether comfortable and to his liking, had ridden from that city with ' out being discovered. Interesting Exercises Notwithstanding the intense beat Brooklyn Hall was crowded yesterday afternoon with people who gathered there to listen to the exercises attend ant upon the first anniversary of Brooklyn Sunday School. The Hall when the wind is from a Southerly di rection, is one of the coolest places in the city, but yesterday, with the wind from the Northwest, it was extremely hot and some of the little ones must have suffered, although they did not complain. Mr. J. W. Taylor, the Superintendent, reviewed briefly the lessons ot the last quarter, after whicb the Secretary of the School. Mr. N. Jenkins, made his report lor the year. This showed a decided condition of prosperity in the school, as there had been a large in crease of pupil?, amounting to more than 100 per cent, since the school was begun a year ago. The attendance had been good, although there might have been an improvement in this di rection. The financial condition of the school is eood. Rev. Dr. Pritchardl was present and made an interesting address upon the subject of missions. Mr. J. S. Mitchell, Superintendent of the First Baptist Sunday School, was also present and made a brief but in teresting address. During the exercises several pieces of Sunday school music were sung very creditably by the pu pils, conducted by Maj. II. II. Foster, with Miss Getie Taylor as organist.
