The fire depart ment, with a band of music, turned out to bid them welcome, barrels of burn, ing tar and rosin illuminated the streets, fire balloons were sent up and there was a general rejoicing all along the lines. It was a right royal'welcome, and the strrets resounded with cheers for the gallant men who had returned home bearing tho laurels ot victory with them. liase .Ball. Smithville and Wrightsville Sound are growing in popularity as watering place resorts. There are an unusual number of visitors at both of these places lhi3 year and a great many more are expected before the season expire? As they become more widely known and their beauties, comforts, luxuries and healthfalness are more fully ap preciated, there is no doubt that they will be the favorite places of resort of thousands who now make yearly trips to tbe mountains and .to tbe . noted watering places of the North. Personal. We are glad to state thale that the condition of Col. John D. Taylor has materially improved. He has rested much better and h&s suffered much less from pain during the last three days and the prospects now are hopeful for a speedy recovery. The uniforms for the Cornet Concert Club are now completed and in readi ness for the club to wear at the encamp ment at Asbeville next week. The suit lor Drum Major H.T. Bauman consists of a dark blue cloth frock coat trimmed with a red shield and ornamcated with gold braid. The epaulettei are very fine and of the regulation pattern. The rousers are ot the same material as the coat, with a red stripe, trimmed with gold lace, down tho legs. The helmet is also of blue cloth and the baton is a most suprebly ornamented stick. The uniforms of tho club are cf dark blue cloth, the breasts of the coats ornament ed with gold lace and a wide gold lace stripe adorns the legs of the trousers. The helmets are of blue cloth similar to the drum major s, but less elaborately ornamented. The belts are white and the music pouches are of white leather with the letters "C. C. C." upon "them in nickel plated letters. The uniforms, taken through out, are very tasty and the expense at tending their manufacture amounts to nearly $1,000. We forgot to mention in the appro priate place that the drum major will wear a red plume while the band will wear white plumes mounted with blue. The uniforms were gotten up and the suits made by Mr. John Dyer, at his tailoring establishment in this city. There is but one linden tree in the city of Wilmington, and it is somewhat ot a curiosity as well as a rarity.
