She was 111 tons register and the vessel and cargo were cleared by Messrs. George Harriss & Co. Tally Ho!' Judging from the tone of the press where tho above-named play has been presented, it is one far above ordinary merit, and the Robert L. Downing ComDanv. which will present it at the Opera House in this city next Tuesday night, is a strong one. The play was written expressly for Mr. Downing, who aDDears in the leading character and the other members of the company have been selected with care. The Washington, D. C, Posl, of August 2lst, says: A press rehearsal of Juaquin Miller's realistic drama, "Taiiy-no. was given at Ford's last night by the Robert L. Downing Company. Since its first pro duction last year "Tally-Ho" has been greatly improved. It has been sharply Druned. and the scenes condensed and adapted to the requirements of the stage and the whole play brightened. It was a diamond before it ever saw the boards of a theatre, but it needed cutting, lhe work bas been well done. The play is a worthy successor to ,49" and "The Danites." Mr. Downing's impersona tion ot Hank Monk is an bncioai crea tion and displays more d and depth of feeling than Davy Crockett. ramatic force Frank Mayo's Trade at the Old Reliable where yon always find just what you want and everything of the best make, and always for less money than you are asked for tho same quality of goods elsewhere. We regret to learn that Mr. J. W. King, Treasurer of this county, is quite sick and confined to his room. Mr. W. C. C. who has been in the city on a short visit. Rev. D. W. Herring, of Pender, who is soon to leave this country for a life of missionary labor in China; will preach at the First Baptist church to morrow. Mr. G. Z. French, of Rocky Point, who has been on a visit to his native State of Maine for the last six weeks, has returned and was in the city to day. He had an enjoyable trip and is in excellent health. 'Sheriffs. . Manning returned from his extended Summer trip last Thurs day night. During his absence he has visited the "Far West" and travelled about 8.000 miles. - He has seen nearly all of the large Western cities, has made a pilgrimage to the famous Yellowston0 Park, and Qs seen much to entertain, instruct and amuse him. He returns looking in excellent health and as if the fatigues incident to so long a journey had been beneficial. His wife accom panied him, but has not yet returned to Wilmington as she is visiting relatives in Maine. v. - Mr. A. D. Brown has recently re turned to the city from an official ton of inspection, in behalf of the State, o the convicts ' I employed oh" various public worts, in the Middle. and West ern portions of the State. He visited, among other places, Mt. Airy ' and thinks it one of the most promising towns in the State. The C. F. V. R. R. is stretching out slow, but surely, in that directiou, and must reach there in the near future. There is a splendid prospect in that direction for the people of Wilmington if we can only get the C. F. & Y.1 V: extended to this city.
