He liked them, however, and a few days afterward, wishing to again regale himself with some of the tooth some crustaceans, he bunted up the restaurant, walked in and sat down at a table , bnt he had forgotten the name of the food he desired. Looking over a bill of fare, he saw "loobsters." He called the waiter and said: "Waiter, have you lobsters?" "Yes," said the waiter. 'Bring me a dozen," said Lawler. What becomes of the counterfeit money that is surrendered or seized from counterfeiters?' was the question put to Chief Drummond of the treasury secret service. Chief Drummond said 'that it was unusual for any one to have possession of counterfeit money in large or small sums excent counterfeiters and the law ful United States custodians. Trades men and others might have possession of one or two bill or' coins, which had been passed on them, and which they retained as curiosities, but if they kept a collection of spurious money in their drawer their motives would be apt to be mistrusted. Tbelawandthe treas ury regulations are very strict about the possession of counterfeit money when the possessor knows it to besocb. When cariosity collectors keep the money in scrap boks or in other ways tbey are liabltfto arrest on the charge of having counterfeit money io their possession. So stringent is the law that even imitali ns of Uncle Sam's notes or coins for.tbe purposes of advertising are forbidden. The secret service officers collect once a nSonth all the counterfeit money from the United States officials who have temporary charge of it as evi dence. The money is locked up in , a safe, and every six months, if no longer needed as . evidence against counter feiters, is forwarded, along with what is seized in bulk, to Custodian Rock ff the treasury department for destruc tion. The money-Is inventoried and described, and receipts are kept ot all that is surrendered. The bills fare macerated and the coin is melted down In the treasury mill at Washington , In tho past eight years tho officers have sent about $500,000 . counterfeit money of all descriptions to, Washing ton.
