Dingelhnef's wibdow to day we saw the goldlined. silver gob let which was won by the Fayelteville Independent Li ht Infantry at tho tar get practice during tho time of the re rent military encampment here. The ffoblet stands about ten .inches high. i8 elegant in design, and bears the legend: Presented by Wilmington Light In fantry, at a rifle contest of teams from companies ot Secoud Regiment, in camp at Wilmington, N. C , May :20th 1887. It is a beautiful article and wu imag ine that our Fayettuville soidier friends wili priz it highly Strayed from Home. A little child of Mr J. D. II Klander strayed away from the home of its parents, No (502 South Seventh street, last Saturday afternoon aod wandered to the railroad before it was found. It seems that the child bad been frightened from the track by t he noise of an engine and was seen by some of the members ol Mr. A. Wehrhabu's family, No. 510 North Seventh Street, who took the little three-years-old wanderer in ciiarge until it was called for. In the meantime the loss had been discovered by the child's parents and they were in great distess and anxiety uotil it was found. The little ones should be look ed alter carefully and watchfully. More than alSlessitigr. We saw to-day a gentleman from near the banks ol the Northeast river, in Duplin county, who since last October has been employed in getting timber for the Carolina Oil & Creosote Works. He now has for raft9 on the way here which will arrive in a day or two un less accident befalls them. These rafts are made of poles ot old' field spruce pines, (hitherto the most useless timber in the State) each of which is 40 feet long, for which be is to receive $1(50 per hundred. It costs htm five cents each for cutting the poles and the total expense of iloatiDg a raft to the city is about $12. He, has large quantities of this sort of timber, which, fortunately for him, stands convenient to the river, and what has been an eyesore has now become the most profitable property in his possession. Citv Court. There was a large docket for the Mayor's consideration this morning and a correspondingly large number of lookers-on : Monroe Turner and John Williams, both colored, were charged with lar ceny, but the hearing in the matter was postponed for the defendants.
