Supplemental Siitrextiuti We suggested yesteiday that the ap proaches to Sixth street bridge be wade as good as possible, in view of the fact that the new bridge on Fourth street cannot be completed until De cember, and this suggestion has been supplemented by a gentleman who has occasion to frequently cross there in a vehicle with one that the bridge itself be boarded up on the sides and the im mediate approach to R on either side be made more secure. As it is it is simply dangerous It is open- at the sides and there is nothing to prevent horses crossing there seeing, as welt as hearing, the locomotives and trains which frequently pass under it. Better attend to it now than wait until after an accident has occurred. This morning at 1 o'clock the alarm of fiie wan sounded from box 35, corner oi Eighth and Market streets, it was discovered to be l he residence of Mr. W. B Davi?, corner, of Market and Sixteenth streets, a one story frame building . The origin of the fire is un known. The fire department were promptly on hand, but only one engine could be used, as the nearest and only water plug is at t he corner of Tenth and Market streets. The building and fur niture are a total loss. The building was insured for $700. in the Hibernian Insurance Company, and the furniture lor $350. in the North Carolina Home.
