TIi' Railroad CIiesM Board. Here are some interesting items rela tive to tb two great railroad systems which meet here, the Atlantic Coas Line and the Seaboard Air Line, which we clip from the Weldon News: Surveyors are at work locatinga rail road in across Roanoke river at Nor- fleet's lerry. No one seems to know where it is to come from or where it s to go. It is the impression in tbe Scot land Week sec' ion that the engineers are operating under the direction ot ibe owners of the road from 'Windsor ti Iewiston. in Bertie county, but this is m lh nature of a conjecture. It wan stated in the papers a short while ago that an agreement exists be tween tbe Seaboard and Coast Lines by which for certain concessions the latter wa not to build the. Nashville branch to Ruleigh s W hatever this agreemen is it is not doubted that it is not ot permanent character, and the Coas Kino is working to secure a route U Norfolk independent of tho Seaboard mad Tbe C ast Line is seeking to ex tend its road to Plymouth, connecting i here with steamers to R ocky Heck, on the Chowan river, 'where a road will bo built to Suffolk, from which place the track ot theNort- lk & Southern road will be used to Norfolk. To complete tbi3 scheme tbe Nash ville branch must bu continued to Raleigh, aud it is a fact that the Coa Line has a largo luantity of new rails lying at Rocky Mount supposed to b tor this purpose. When this link completed there can b; a continuous line from western, central and eastern Carolina to Norfolk; oxclusive of tho Seaboard air line, wnich will of course out oft tho carrying trade ot the latter considerably. It is whispered that tho Seaboard road, seeing this inclination on tho part ot the Coast Line, is preparing to mcot and counteract it as tar as possible and one way it intends to do so is to con tioue ihi? road it i now building from Boykins into Beriiu county across the Roanoke river in the neighborhood ot Scotland Neck on to Tarboro. thus carrying the war into Africa, so to speak This may account for the numerous surveys which have been and are being mado in the lower end of this County, by both corporations.
