King, of Kelly's Cove, Bladen county, who recently passed examination and was licensed by the Presbytery, preached an eloquent and instructive sermon at the Presbyterian Church at Point Caswell on Sunday la$t. Grapes, too. are unusually scarce this year but the potato crop will be a large one. Messrs. Polyogt & Rahder open in Brooklyn to-day with a handsome stock ot new goods. Tuttle, of the Filth Street M. E. Church, is an nounced as the speaker for the occa sion. The Mendelssohn Quartette Club will furnish music. A Sudden Attuck. Mr. Nelson Jenkins, who holds a po sition in the dry goods establishment of Messrs. Brown & Roddick, on North Front street, started to his dinner to day about 2 o'clock, and when near the postofflce he became exhausted and Ml in the street. A carriage was call ed and Mr. Jenkins was conveyed to his home on North Fourth street. It was iumored that be was sun struck, but this ia not true. He has been feeble for several days and the physician in attendance states that he has an attack of fever. Nv Steampr for Black Kivor. Capt. 1). J Black, of the steamer Lisbon, is buiiding a new steamer at Sheru an's Landing, about tour mile3 aboyo Point Caswell. The new boat will bo about 85 feet in length and 18 feet beam, and will tak'3 the place of IheLisbon. which will belaid up and not be run again. It is expected that she will be ready in two months, say about the middle of November or the first of December. Capt. Black will be sole owner of the now steamer, as he is of the Lisbon. Sarah C Williams, one of the most highly esteemed residents of this city, a lady of many virtues and a sincere, upright, christian woman, died at her residence in this city at 4 o'clock this morning, the result of a paralytic seizure some duys since, aged 73 years. Mrs. Willittois was the relict of the late Willmm A. Williams, and the mother of Mr. W. A. Williams and Mrs. Louis H Balden, ot this city, and Mrs Capt. Little, ot Virginia. The funeral services will lake place at 10 o'clock toMuorrow morning from St. James' Church. The Clinton Tram, j The Clinton traiu. which leaves here at 5 o'clock iu the afternoon and re turns at 10 o'clock iu the morning, is a great favorite with the people along the line. The distauce is about 68 miles and the run is made iu three hours each way, including a dozen stops, which gives a running time of more than 30 miles au hour. In some places even better time lhau thin is made. For instance, the run from this citv to Rocky Point. 14 miles, is made iu 21 minutes, which is exactly 35 miles an hour. It is a pleasant train and runs during the most pleasant part ot the day, at this season. Capt. G. D. Hawkes is the conductor, and Mr. Jack Bissett is the engineer. Personal Mr. L Hansen returned to the city yesterday. Mr. Frank Sessoms, ot Bladen county, is in the city. Mr. W. B. Hocut, of Rocky Point, was in the c'ty to-day. Col. W. Foster French, of Robeson county, was in the city to, ay. Mr. W. H. Willard. of Raleigh, who was in the city yesterday, went up on the W. & W. R. R. yesterday after noon. Mr. J. A. Lewis is in the city to day purchasing merchandise for the purpose of opening a store at South port. Maj. James H. Hill is in the city and sick, we are sorry to hear. He is at Mrs. Whiting's residence, on Orange street, between Fourth and Fifth. Connor, Judge of the Su perior Court, who has been holding Brunswick County Court, passed thro' the city last evening. He will open Richmond Court, at RockiDgham, on Monday next. Dr. George G Thomas returned to the city last night from Washingtou City, where be has been in attendance on the International Medical Congress. Dr. W.J. II. Bellamy, who was also presant at the Congress, has gone to New York. Mr. N. Jacobi and his eldest eon, Mr Marcus Jacobi, returned to tho city last night from au extensive visiL to Washingtou City and New York. In the former city Mr. Jacobi attended as a delegate the meeting of the Na tional Council of the American Legion of Honor and afterwards spent two weeks with his son in New York, in the purchtse of goods.
