He was charged with larceny. The prosecutor withdrew the warrant and Simmons was discharged. Robt. Waddell, colored, was arraign ed for cruelty to animals. He was ad judged guilty and sent on to the Crim inal Court for trial. Ed. Herring, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined $10 or 20 days on the streets. W. L. Currie, drunk and disorderly and carrying a concealed weapon; was found guilty in the first case and ordered to pay a fine of $10 or go below for 20 days. Jadgment was suspended for the present in the second case. W. L. Young, colored, an escaped prisoner from Cumberland county jail, was ordered to be detained until Wed nesday. A. Morrison, a colored sailor from the West Indies, who was charged sevs eral days ago with carrying a concealed weapon, when judgment was suspended, was brought before the Court this morning and a fine of $25 or 30 days in the county jail was imposed Jify List forU. We are pained to learn of the sudden demise of Capt W.T. Murray, an aged and respected citizen of this city. He has been confined to his room for three weeks by nervous prostration. Yester day he was feeling better, and thought he would sit up. After sitting in tho Chair a short while, he was taken worse and died in a few minutes after reach ing the bed. The receipts of cotton at this port for week ending with to-day foot up 9,442 bales as against 735 bales for the cor responding week last year, an increase of 8,707 bales. The receipts of the crop year to date foot up 14,113 bales as against 970 bales to corresponding date last year, an increase this year of 13, 143 bales. The Fire. At 3 o'clock this afternoon the fire alarm was sent in from box 51. The fire was discoyered to be at the Chan piou Compress and we are glad to say that it was only slight. A pile of waste cotton, about 20 pounds, was ignited, it is thought by a match that had been dropped on the floor being run over by a truck. The fire department were promptly on hand.
