By the way, what a wonderful vitality the old party does show, to be sure. It was a mere political wreck twenty years ago and this wreck was turned into a rout when Horace Greeley as foisted on the party 'at the Baltimore Convention. To-day the same old party stands proudly preeminent. It is the party of the people, by the people and for the people, and no other can take its place. Its defeats have always been accepted with a good grace and when time was again called it came up to the encounter as fresh, as serene and as confident as ever. Adversity has always proved for it a powerful tonic, while success has never yet unduly elated it. This same old party is going in to the fight next vear to win. The prestige of victory is already on its oanners ami me uescinies or mis countrv will rest securely on its slioulders for many years yet to come. (New York Star,) The Democratic metropolis of the United States congratulates the people of the country on the magni ficent victory that has been won here through the aid of sympathiz ing and appreciative friends in every part of the county. Our signal success insures a Dem ocratic State victory next year and i Democratic federal government for four years from March 4, 1889. The magnificent result is largely due to the aid ol teueral and State lead ers to Cleveland and to.Hill no less than to Hewitt and the hundreds of Democrats of national renown, who have magnanimously, without solic itation, taken a neighbor's part in our defense against the combination of open foes with secret "traitors. The solidarity of the Democratic party -that Avon in 1884 is firmly fix ed. The question of the candidacy for President in 1888 is.no longer an open one. Cleveland stood by New York. The people of New York have already answered Cleveland. There was nothing half-hearted or halting about his indorsement of the choice of the Democrats of New York. (New York Herald.) The citv of New York has elected John 11. bellows District Attorney by a plurality of twenty-t wo thou sand, thus giving a crushing rebuke to the ruffianism which has marked the canvass against that candidate and making it possible for a gentle man to run for office in New York without losing his self respect. The State of New York, in spite of the defection of what is known as the labor vote, elects the Democrat ic ticket by a majority of at least fifteen thousand. New", York remains immovably in line as a Democratic State. Brooklyn elects a Democratic Mayor. Kings county swings for Cleveland and Hill. The Democracyhave won decisive victories in Republican Pennsylva nia, breaking the rule of the Phila delphia Republican ring. The elections are a complete tri umph for the administration. The victory is along the whole line. The national, State and municipal ad ministrations were alike on trial, and the verdict as regards President Cleveland, Governor Hill and Mayor Hewitt is, "Well done, good and faithful servants!" - We cannot overestimate the sig nificance of this verdict in its effect upon national politics. The Herald has maintained with emphasis the conviction that the prosperity of the country depended upon the mainte nance of the Democratic party in Bawer. Whatever the faults of the emocratsin the past :the. stupidity and caprice shown in dealing with the war and its issues they have fully won back public confidence. Whether this is owing to the conser vative policy of Cleveland or the na tional instinct to be honest we do not know. But it is a fact and the New York elections confirm it that the Democratic party is to day, to use a sporting phrase, the favorite. We think it shoujd so continue, and we read the results of yesterday's elections as the indication of such a resolve on the part of the people. We do not view this result with sausiaciion - oecause we care anv- - We have the most, complete establishment in the city, carry a large stock of different work promptly and satisfactorily, and at; t pfjr.- e wore pnjuipu I realize that it has done very much prices that we can live at. i f or the countryt that it is the party Give tx your orders. of peace and represents national Jackson a bell. Don't let that cold of vours run on. You think it is a light thing. But it may run into catarrh. Or into pneumo nia. Or consumption. Catarrh is disgusting. Pneumo nia is dangerous. Consumption is death itself. The breathing apparatus must be kept healthy and clear of all obstruc tions and offensive matter. ' Other wise there is trouble ahead. All the diseases of these parts, head, nose, throat, bronchical tubes and lungs, can be delightfully and entirely cured by the use of Bo schee's German Syrup.
