NOVEMBER Congress, convenes next Monday. Horr. A. W. Hendricks, who was to the late-Vice-Pres- of heart disease, at his house m Indianapolis Friday night. It was on the day before Tbankstri vine-. in 1 ftfta r. ' ' lee resident Hendricks wasfnnnd dead in bed by his wife. Hon. Randolph Tucker and Hon. John Cfoode both assert most posi tively that Mr. Lamar has already been chosen by the President for the vacancy on the Supreme Bench and it is stated with equal positiye- hess that' Mr, Vilas is to be trans ferred to the Interior Department, and that Mr. Dickinson will be an- pointed as the new Postmaster General. In looking over the Guardian we find therein, published in full, an Act of Congress to regulate insur ance in the District of Columbia. We have seen it stated somewhere that all of the States have laws reg ulating insurance and that the Dis trict of Columbia has none. Thisis a mistake. The law before us is plain and explicit. By it no insur" ance company can transact business iu the District unless it has a paid up capital of not less than $100,000. The law, in. its entirety, seems to be as strict in its requirements and as careful of the interests of the insur ed as the insurance laws in North Carolina. - local nsriETxrs- Index to New Advertisements.
