"The Book Auction" contains novel and inter esting facts. A beautifully illustra trd article on "The Italians of Ne York," gives picturesque glimpses of a people that are now occupying much attention in the discussion of the restriction of foreign immigra tion. The lovers of fine illustrations will find those accompanying "The Crime of .Micah Rood" unusually excellent. "An Orphan in Japan" is another powerful Btory. "The Remarkable Courage of Abidias Muller," is a humorous story. Rich ard A. Proctor answers in theaffirui-. ative the question, "Have' Ghosts Been Seen?" Poems are contribu ted by .Helen Gray Cone, Frank Dempster Sherman, Edith Sessions Tupper, Wm. C. Richards, Danske Dandridge and Duffield Osborne. M'lle Rhea. . M'lle Rhea, who at this time needs no introduction toWilmington theatre-goers, will appear at the Opera House,. onFriday and Saturday even ings of this week and at a Saturday matinee. M'lle Rhea is pre-eminently the society actress of our stage, the language to which j she was bom and whose sprightliness shaped her speech is the language of society. The vivacity of action, the charm of expressipn, the cordial grace of manner, which are the her: itage of her radiant countrymen, fit her peculiarly for those plays which by their wit, pathos, delicacy and refinedhumor, appeal to the intelli gence of a refined audience. 'M'lle Rhea is a rare and idolized type of the French temperament. She is a genuine artist, a beautiful woman, enamored of her profession and long since become, by diligence' and tal ent, the mistress of its every art. She ill appear on Friday even ing in her new play from the French, entitled, "Fairy Fingers, which al thouch new here has. been one of her greatest successes. It has for its story the struggles of a poor young girl to maintain herself, and who, as a dressmaker and with the aid of her "fairy fingers" acquires a for tune. It upholds the dignity of labor and is full of pleasant surprises. One scene, representing the interior. of a Parisian dressmaking establishment, will be of especial interest to the ladies. It will be made extremely realistic by the aid of salesladies, customors, a man milliner and a be- wilderingdisplay of Parisian dresses. At the Saturday matinee M'lle Rhea appears as "lialatea" in W. B. Gil bert's bealitiful mythological play of "Pygmalion and Galatea,'? a char acter that permits her to display her refined methods and gracefnl man ners in a reiilarkable degree. "Frou Frou" will behe attraction on Saturday evening. Judging from competent press " criticisms, M'lle Rhea has struck the true chord of the complex character of "The Pari sian Butterfly." She presents lan ideal "Frou Frou," not painting it with undue coarsness but presenting every phase of the -character in a natural and realistic manner. The display of handsome dresses to; be worn during M'lle Rhea's engage ment will be of interest to the ladies.. They will be the latest creations of Worth and Mad. Alexandre of .Paris. All the accessories that a fine, ."com pany, gorgeous dresses and a great star can give, will be seen -in M'lle ij ' ' '. I ArIv thnsfl wVin luiVA trtH nrA thpv ... .. J Wood if or the Poor. I ' It has been stated to us on ; un doubted authority that there , is muchof actual suffering among the poor of the city. There seems to be a great lack of fuel among these un fortunate people and they have.no money with which to buy that ne cessary' article. -There are families in the city who lived through j last Sunday without a stick of wood and with but a very little to eat. The condition of some of these families is made worse by sickness, and all of them call loudly for assistance. They are all worthy objects of .char ity and we trust tha those who have been more blessed with this world's goods will contribute liberally of their store to the relief of the dis- i tressed. Funds for the relief of these distressed people, whose necessities are actual and urgent, may be left with Dr. F, W. Potter, city physi cian, with the assurance that they will be applied where the most good may be obtained. . Deatlkofao Old Citizen . Mr. E.
