A Fireman's Tournament.
... . .
A movement, is; on foot auu wo
think it is a good one to have a
fireman's tournament in the ci?y
during the time the State Encamp
meiit is held here in fuly next. The
idea so far as we have heard! it for
mulated, is for the white firemen of
cut; en j t u uiviic iiit; lire cuimitunrB
of other cities in the State,, and pos
sibly some from beyond our borders
to come here and indulge in a friend
ly trial. of skill with their respective
engines and also to .become, better
acquainted as a body of men devot
ed to the same noble and seir-sacri-
flcing purpose.
Gov. Scales has issued a general
order that the Encampment! of the
StateGuard shall be held at y rights
ville, commencing July 15th and
continuing seven days. This.-would
be a good time for the firemen, to
meet here and exchange greetings
and courtesies... It would also, add
much 'to the interest of the time and
we hope that the moveinent4-now a
mere talk may receive shape and
direction, so that the encampment
week will be a gala time in our city.
