Hanks lives near the Wooden Mills, and at present his wifeand his wife's mother, Mrs. Jasper, are quite sick. to much so that it requires persons to sit up with them. This morning about 3 o'clock his dwelling was the scene of a fatal burning accident. It seems that a colored woman by the name of Pen ny Fuller, twenty-five years of age, was in one room attending Mrs, Jasper. In the other room were a number of neighbors sittingup with Mrs. Hanks. About the hour nam ed, Mrs. IL D. Black nail, hearing a noise in Mrs. Jasper's room went in to ascertain -the cause. When she opened the door a most horrible sight was presented to her. The colored girl. Penny, was standing in the middl of the room completely enveloped in flames and perfectly helpless. Mr. Hunks ran in and used every endeavor to relieve her. . He succeeded in putting out the fire but was severely burned on his hands, wrist and feet, though not seriously. Dr. A. O. Carr was sum moned with all possible, speed . and rendered all the aid he could to the victim of the flames. The girl lived scarcely five minutes and died a most horrible death. The cause of this serious catastrophe is not known, bat it Is supposed the girl laid down before the lire ana mat a coai pop ped out on her clothing.
