The. vote in Massachusetts has been thus increased, it is stated by oflr ears of the British-American Asso ciation, as much as 40,000, and with hi four vears from the inception of the movement the addition made to the number of voters in the State of "Sow York id expected to reach 00,- 000. A letter sinel by four hundred children who are to sing on Chil dren's Day at the musical festival to be held at the new Academy of Music in Petersburg, Va., in May, has been written to Mr. Cleveland, urging her attendance at that time, and requesting her to persuade the President to bring her. The letter has been "gotten up in handsome style, and will be taken to Washing" ton by a committee, who will pres ent it to Mrs. Cleveland. This coin mittee will be followed by another committee a few davs afterward. who will call upon the President and his private secretary and re- cpiest their presence at the festival. Governor Lee has accepted an invi tation to attend the festival, andan invitation has also been extended to Governor Scales, of this State. Labouchere In a special cable gram from Loudon to the 'ew York World says: "Princess Victoria of Prussia must be a vervjnflammable damsel if she has cherished a life long affection for Prince Alexander, as He linaiiv nniltfHi uerun wneu she was only 1. During the last nine years they have never met, ex cept during three days in Darmstadt in the spring of 1884, when Princess Victoria of Hesse .was married to Prince Louis of Battenberg. Under the circumstances it is difficult to understand the frantic passion with which she is alleged to be inspired, and I should think that Prince Alex ander, who has always kept a keen eye on the main chance, is probably in love chiefly with the advantages of an alliance with the royal fami lies of Prussia and England, to say nothing of the handsome fortune which Emperor Frederick would no doubt endeavor to settle upou ins daughter, who would fare badly if she had to depend on the liberality of her eldest brother. If this mar riage ever takes place I venture to predict that Prince and Princess Alexander will pass a great deal of their time in England. - The importance of the announce ment by the Independence Beige that a regency is about to be estab lished in Belgium can best be e&ti: mated by the fact that that paper. which is one of the most influential and widely rend papers in Europe, stands in the same peculiar and in- timatu relations to the Belgian Gov ernment its the London Times does towards the British Government.
