Henrv was yesterday engaged in
jacking up a box can in the tram

t'omnany in this city, whenthe jaws
of the jack slipped, and the handle,
a long wooden lever, flew up after
the fashion of a catapault and Hurl
ed Henry some distance. The end
of the lever struck Henry tinder tne
jaw, and when his comrades picKeu
him uu thev were so 6ure that he
vas dead that they laid him out in
one of the rooms at the depot. No
tice of his death was being fixed up
to be sent by telegraph to head
quarters wheu the supposed corpse
suddenly came to life and walked
out of the room. Henry had been
rendered insensible by the blow,but
strange to say noneof his bones were
broken.
Raleigh yews' and Observer.' On
yesterday morning the community
was shocked and horrified at the
news of a terrible accident which
hail befallen Mr. J. R.- Wrenn, an
aged and highly respected citizen of
this city, and the iather of Messrs.
Joe and Louis Wrenn, the popular
and clever conductors on the R. &
A. Railroad. Mr. Wrenr. was ou the
inside of a freight car which was
standing in the warehouse at the R.
& G. depot, repairing the lock of
the car door, whenthe shifting en
gine coupled on to thecarand started
with it. Mr. Wrenn attempted tostep
from the car door to the warehouse,
but not stepping quickly enough, he
was cauirht bet ween the side of the
. m a .
ear and tne wan or tne warenouse
between which there was a space of
about eight or ten inches, and thus
wedged in thi narrow space was
rolled a distance of twenty live feet,
when he dropped by the side of the
track, with one leg under the car,
which ran over the leg about one
i inch above the ankle, crushing it
terribly. Doctors Nines, K. B. Hay
wood and Hubert Haywood were at
once summoned, and" the wounded
man was removed to his home, lie
complained of great pain in his
chest; and the doctors fear that
there is some internal injnrv. It is
uncertain yet as tq whether the
amputation of the foot will be nec
essary or not.
