Strange to save the neck of Stephen Freeman, colored, who was convict ed of rape. Two petitions are in circulation and are being numerous- y signed, one for pardon and the other for a commutation. -Some new evidence has been discovered since the trial which goes mr, in wards casting a doubt as to Free man's guift and this will be present ed with the petition.
