typewriter is to be put on the mar
ket in two or three months which, it
is claimed, will be capable of one
cpiarter more speed than those now
commonly in use, ami will have the
advantage of displaying the writing
to the operator while it is beinsr
done. To some kinds of operators
this will undoubtedly be a good ileal
of assistance. The speed will be
improved in one way by the use oi
perhaps a dozen combination keys.
These keys will strike combinations
of letters instead of a single letter at
a time. "Th" and "ng7 will be, of
course, among these combinations.
It requires the striking of two keys
and the space bar now to print these
letters. By the new device a single
stroke, it is obvious, will be all that
is necessary. Inventors who are ac
quainted with the improvement
which has been made in typewriters
in the last few years say that au op

A CARD.
Editor Rk'vikw: It has been,

undersigned to maintain a modest
and decorous attitude in the matter
of the nomination for titstte Auditor
bv theDemocratic State Convention
which meets on the SOtli of May,
preferring that his friends should
present and urge his claims rather
than seem in a public manner to do
so himself. The 'publication of this
card, he hopes, will not be regarded
as in coutravention of such a desire
and purpose, in view of the follow
ing explanations respectfully sub
mitted. For the past two mouths
inquiries have come in from all sec
tions of the State as to whether the
writer desires the nomination for
Auditor, and these inquiries have
invariably been accompanied with
the assurance, "We are for you
against the field if you want the nom
ination. Please let us hear from
you." During these same two
months I have been kept closely
confined, and mv attention entirely
absorbed, by the severe and, finally,
