We are requested by Mr. Preston Cuiiiming, Chief Marshal, to state that the Memorial Ceremonies in tended for to-day have been post poned until to-morrow, on account of the inclement weather. There fore, all arrangements inade for to day hold good for to-morrow, at the name hour. The indications are for fair weather to-morrow. New Presbyterian Clinrcli. A reporter for the Rkvikw took trip down the river yesterday on the SVfran Grove, to Carolina Beach. The run was made rapidly, without let or hindrance, and in one hour and fifteen minutes after leaving Market dock he stood on the beach in front of the great Atlantic. He reports a great many improve- inents at the Beach, principal among which is the chancre of terminus from the pavilion to the hotel, pas semrers now debarking at that place. There are many more con veniences, in various ways, than there were last year and everything and everybody 6eems preparing for a big business this season, in which we do not think they will be disap . pointed. Capt. Harper runs each train over from the Pier to the Beach and is as accommodating aol courteous as ever. A. large oiacKooarti at the platform tells everybody plainly just exactly when the train will leave the Beach and the locomotive whis tle Is blown 15 minutes before the time for starting. So that all who may hereafter get left will have no eye. Using I one to blame but themselves. Wire Cloth for your windows and and doors can be had at Jacobi'a I Hdw. Depot. " . f I " Confessed and In Jail. v j A man by the name of R. P. Long was arrested last night about mid- night, under the Fourth street; bridge, charged with robbing Messrs. ; M. M. Parker and Stephen Greelish, at Mr. James King's boarding house, on Front street, near the de-, pot. i(e was carried before the Mayor this morning, where he con fessed his-guilt, and was sent oh for trial before Judge Meares next week, in default of a bond of $100 for his appearance. There was a larger sum in the trunk which for tunately escaped the thief's atten tion, aud which he did not get. As soon as Messrs. Parker and Greelish discovered their loss thev reported the matter at the City Hall and were by the Mayor deputized to ar rest Long, if they could find him. They made a search for him, and so diligently that he was found under Fourth street bridge, where it is presumed that he intended to board the midnight train for the North When arrested Long had on some of the clothes stolen from Mr. Parker's trunk. The Mechanics' League. The Mechanics' League of Wil mington, N. C, is the name of a new order which has been recently organized in this city. It has been but a few months in existence anc yet it has already a large member ship, which is rapidly increasing It was organized in February, 1888 and there are now about 100 mem bers on the roU. The following gen tlemen are the officers: President Joseph Ransley.--Vice President J. H. Williams. Secretary Kelley W. Jewell. Treasurer Miles Costin. Chaplain Rev. C. L. Arnold. The meetings are held on Monday night of each week at Linder's Hall. The order is non-political and non sectarian, and is based upon the principle!that "an individual has an individual right to work for whom, with whom and for what,he pleases." The objects, as set forth in the constitution, are 'the moral, intel lectual, bi-technical and finaucial improvement and advancement of the interests of its members." This order was orignated here and bids fair to spread to other cities- Mr. J. C. Chase, Superintendent of tho ClaJendon Water Works, yes terdav wrote to Chief Marshal Gum ming, tendering water from the hy drauts to sprinkle the streets to-day on the route of. the Memorial pro cession and britrht and early this morning Mayor Fowler had a part of the street force at the Work. They continued at it until it began to rain hard, when it was seen that it was no longer needed. If we are somewhat short to-day of our usual amount of reading mat ter it is not our fault. Nearly all of the forenoon was spent in preparing matter relative to the Memorial celebration to-day and on account of the postponement this has to be held back until to-morrow. This is the first time, since the ser vices were estaDiisnea, tnat .tne weather here on Memorial Day has been so 'inclement as to interfere with the programme. The day was first observed in the . year 1866, and this is its twenty-third observance. The iiouse kept at Carolina Beach last season by Mr. Bache and his excellent wife attained a high rep utation with excursionists. It is now open again, and for the season, and all who go down to the Beach and want an enjoyable lunch can- not do better than call at Mr. Bache's for it. Dr. R. H. Holliday, of Clinton, a veteran of Co. I, 18th N. .C. Regi ment, is in the city to-day and paid us a pleasant visit. It is the first time we have met since the war. He came down to attend our Memo rial services. The rain to day interfered with the parade of the Wilmington Light Infantry, and the presentation of the flag, as with . everything else appointed fonto-day. They will take place to-morrow. ' ". .;.
