Editor Review: Fair, play is bur
motto, and we admit there are two
sides to every question, and in re
ply to Engineer Heery's card in
yonr issue of the 18th inst.. we de-
(sire to say that promptness is al
ways to be commended in a fireman
In a former' "article wo made the
charge "that the too prompt arrival
of the water at the end of the Adrian
hose prevented their putting on the
pipe.'' This- has been pronounced
alse by Mr. Beery, but does not al
ter the ' fact that the water was
rushing out of an open butt and the
firemen holding; the same were mak
ing loud requests to have the water
shut-off.
I ins was witnessed bv a
score or men and contradiction on
U
guage used.
Engineer Beery says: "I arrived
on my engine just in time to have
nitr winter luiueu on uirou'rii me
hose."
This 'hydrant,- as every fireman
knows, is at Exchange Corner.
That Engineer Beery, however
skilful and efficient he may be,
could look up Front street, around
the corner and 0 feet up thePurcell
alley and see with a sufficient clear
ness what there took' place to be able
to call the statement of cool eye wit
nesses false is to us a remarkable
evidence of foresight. '"

alarm'of fire. June 18th, in 4 minutes
and 20 seconds our hose cart had
traveled eight blocks, - laid 450 fept

water was shut off at the hydrant
We believe however there is up
contest about this first stream. .
We have no apology to offer for
only using one line of..hose. if all

any of the members of the Howard

they would at Ohce have preferred
charges against our company, and
ere this we would have been con!

This is our opinion, and we think
that we have sufficient knowledge
of the material of which the volun-
teer fireman is made to say that
whenever he thinks he is-ill treated
he seeks redress at once.
This was the opinion of the Fore
man of the Atlantic for as soon as
he saw by the" reports of the morning
papers that it was thought that our

carefully, trained. .She received in

voice as wonderful and have proph
