; An effort was made to have the
Marine Parade to-morrow afternoon
take place" at 5 o'clock instead "of 3,
pA it is now announced. The change
cannot be made, however, and we
are Requested by the committee to
say that it will take place positivly
at 3 o'clock.
Capt. R. P. Paddison has tendered
the use of the Queen's wharf. Just
South of Dock street, from whence
the soldiers can witness the Marine

. 151g Excursion to "Weldon.
A very large party of colored peo
ple left here this morning for Wel
don, the occasion being an excur
sion given by the order of Good Sa
maritans in this city. There were
U coaches,ali crowded. On a simitar
excursion, about this time last year,
there were" 14 coaches, all filled.. It
will be remembered that the heat
then" was very intense jind that one
colored woman died from the effects
of it and several other of the excur- i
succeeded in doing. He was bruised
somewhat but .we are glad to know
escaped serious injury.
Tito Lunar Eclipse. -
The lunar entertainment last
night, given in honor of the boys in
camp, but not for their special bene"
fit, was witnessed under very favor
able circumstances. It began prompt
ly on time as advertised by the as
tronomicalschedule makers. - At a
few minutes before 11 the shadow
began to creep over the Eastern
face of the moon and before 12
o'clock her face was entirely cover
ed, with the cloud. The veiled
beauty, however, could be plainly
distinguished behind the veil she
wore. About half-past 1 o'clock this
morning the shadow began .to steaj
away and in an hour the full, round
moon in all of its glory was shining
from a cloudless sky.
In Camp Yesterday?
Sunday in camp is generally a
peaceful, placid day and yesterday
was no exception to the rule. It was
different, though, very essentially,
from those the tar heels were wont
to spend in camp . during . the late
civil war. Then, when they were
not called upon to do. a . little fight
ing (and somehow Sunday seem
ed to be a favorite day with
the great . leaders for this di
version) they amused themselves
in camp by alternately dozing the
sunlit hours away and hunting
around among the rags which cov
ered their sorely-tried bodies for
"greybacks," , a breed of insectfe
which seems to have become extinct
of late years. . - .
There were joint religious services
vesterdav in the camp, both fore-
noon and afternoon. The first was
conducted by Rev. Dr. Harding
Chaplain of the First Regiment,and
Rev. Dr. Carmichael, Chaplain of
the Second Reeriment. Those of the
afternoon were conducted by Rev.
Dr. Law, Chaplain of the Fourth
Regiment. They were all well at
tended, by civilians as well as by
the .troops. V -
The usual drills were suspended,
as a matter of course, but dress pa"
rade was held at 6 o:clocK ana was
perhaps the most attractive and in
teresting of any yet had. " -
The following were the camp offi
cers for to-day. ;

She said that the Lord had com.

devil was trying all of -the time to
get her to say that she was hungry;
buf she would not, for in that case
her soul would be lost. The kind-
hearted gentleman drove to se vera
places in the neighborhood, trying
to get assistance from some of the
colored people near by, but found
considerable difficulty in securing it.
At last, by a payment of money," a
colored man took her in and prom
ised to care for her until assistance
could be sent. Mayor. Fowler was
afterwards seen and he promised
that he would send out for her to
day and have her cared for. The un
fortunate creature's name is Minnie
Allen and she will probably be sent
to the asylum at Goldsboro.

We are "glad to announce that the
Crescent Opera Company will- re
main with us a few nights longer.
They played Saturday night to a
fairly good audience and to-night
they will present again the Chimes
of Normandy. This is the piece
with which they first opened the
season here and in which they made
such a line impression. : It is an
opera in which the Company excels
and in which they are sure to please.
We hope ' that large . houses will
greet the troupe during the remain

entitled to the warm appreciation
of our people and our guests.
