SENATE.
Washington, Augusta Mr. Cul

the Committee on Inter-State Com

into the relations of Canadian rail
roads with transportation across the

The discussion of Mr. CullouVs

particularly in the remarks of Messrs.
Gormon and Edmunds. Finally,
the discussion came to a close and
the resolution was adopted without
discussion.
The Senate then proceeded to the
consideration of the fisheries treaty
in open executive session. r

Picnic t Plney Woods.
Editor Review: It was my good
pleasure to be present yesterday,
the 2nd. day of August, at a picnic
at Piney Woods, in Columbia town
ship. The day was warm and sultry.
Notwithstanding at an early hour
the crowd had assembled from Dup
lin, Sampson and Pender, consist
ing of about three hundred. The
Long Creek band was on hand and
made some good music for the
dancers which they indulged in
quite freely until a late hour. At
one oclock dinner, was announced
and a dinner it was I can tell you.
The ladies of the Moore's Creek
section know how to fix up these
good dinners, and as for the pretty
f;irls they are numerous. Take it all
n all, Moore's Creek is hard to beat
for good looking women and hard
cider picnics. The day wound
up in a nice rain which was badly
needed; crops have suffered in that
section for want of rain.
From what your correspondent
could glean yesterday R. M. Croom,
Esq., the Republican leader in Pen
der, and their candidate for the
lower house in our next Legislature,
will be apt to come out at the tail
end on tke 2nd day of next Novem

to have placed . on the Democratic
ticket the name of George A. Ram

. opinion that can and will meet
Croom on any issue he may bring

ticket, with Ramsey at the head,
and you may bet thellads will go up

Advice to Mother.
Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup
should always be used when children
are cutting teeth. It relieves the lit

child from pain, and the little cher

is verv pleasant to taste. It soothes
the child, softens the gums, allays
all pain, relieves wind, regulates the
