Editor Review: It was my good pleasure to be present yesterday, the 2nd. day of August, at a picnic at Piney Woods, in Columbia town ship. The day was warm and sultry. Notwithstanding at an early hour the crowd had assembled from Dup lin, Sampson and Pender, consist ing of about three hundred. The Long Creek band was on hand and made some good music for the dancers which they indulged in quite freely until a late hour. At one oclock dinner, was announced and a dinner it was I can tell you. The ladies of the Moore's Creek section know how to fix up these good dinners, and as for the pretty f;irls they are numerous. Take it all n all, Moore's Creek is hard to beat for good looking women and hard cider picnics. The day wound up in a nice rain which was badly needed; crops have suffered in that section for want of rain. From what your correspondent could glean yesterday R. M. Croom, Esq., the Republican leader in Pen der, and their candidate for the lower house in our next Legislature, will be apt to come out at the tail end on tke 2nd day of next Novem ber, provided we can be so lucky as to have placed . on the Democratic ticket the name of George A. Ram sey, Esq. He is the man in my . opinion that can and will meet Croom on any issue he may bring ' out, and after the second day of No vember the Republican party in Pender will be so completely deinol lohori thn.t it would take all of Gen. Harrison's army to get them in rank j and file again. So give us a good! ticket, with Ramsey at the head, and you may bet thellads will go up and never come down again in Pen der.
