A number of balloons were also sent up and they could be locat ed in the flight for a long distance. The only drawback to the display was rather too much moonlight. The following queries are pro pounded by one of our citizens: "Cannot the time at which the whis tles of saw mills and factories are blown every morning at daylight be shortened so that they may not be regarded as nuisances by citizens all over the city who have to get their principal sleep early in the morning? Is it of more importance to the community that about fifty or more laborers be summoned to their work than that the rest or slumber of hundreds of our citizens should be disturbed? City Court. As the moon will be full at that time it promises to be a delightful occasion and wiU'draw out a large crowd. The Grove will leave her wharf at 6 o'clock and the return from the Beach will be at 10 o'clock, thus affordine nearly three hours of moonlight on the verge of the great Atlantic. There will be music and refreshments on board of the boat. About Cutting Down Weeds. We have long been of the opinion that weeds were not actually un healthy during the summer season and that it is better to let the in alone, rather than have them cut down and carted off under a hot sun, and we are glad to have this opin ion confirmed by Dr. Wood. This matter was submitted to hiui to-day and he 'litis furnished us with the followiug opinion; , Actively growing weeds do no harm. They absorb water from the soil, draining it to a certain extent and giving off oxygen, and this lat ter process goes on from the most unsightly and noxious weeds. There fore it is better to leave them staud" ing in August than to cut them down, thereby laying bara the soil, and causing malarial emanations from it. Later on, just before the weeds begin to die, they should'be cut and carted right away. Weeds should be prevented iui February and March by thoroughly weeding as tne seeq QQiue qp. T. F- Wood.. Yesterday's Regatta. There was a fine race at the Sound, yesterday and a large number, of ladies and gentlemen to witness it. The boats which participated were the Little Alice, Loulie, Lillian Flor ence, Phantom, Idler, Ma&ootte and Peggoty, and the judges were Capt, II. Savage and Messrs. H. G.
