Great complaint is being made by citizens to the condition of the side walks on the north side of Chestnut, between Third and Sixth street. It is almost impassable' during rainy weather, and since the centre of the street has been raised streams of water run down the sidewalk, no gutters having been made to carry off the overflow. ' A Salse report was circulated here to-day, to the effect that a well know freight conductor was sick at his home with the yellow fever. Of coarse there' was not a word of truth in the report:; The gentleman was slightly unwell and was off duty for a day or two, but is now all right and was oh the road with his train to-day. ' To Mayor of Charleston: For God's sake send a physician, several nurses and money. Onr physicians are sick. The druggist and I are the only ones to treat patients, and I must go down to night. I can save patients if treatment is applied on first symptoms. Eleven deaths in the last two weeks and nearly everv one sick. Rev. C, S. Snowdkn. This is a pathetic appeal, and it comes from a warm, true heart and a noble son.!. McCleiaay is a small town of a few hundred inhabitants, situated nine miles west of Baldwin. Rev. Charles S, Snowden is the son of Dr, P." h Snowden, formerly of Charleston, but now of Ocala, Fla. He is a minister in the Protestant Episcopal Church and has devoted his life to deeds. of charity and be nevolence and priestly mimstra tions. Some years ago he opened a school in McClenhy and has since labored t there earnestly with his head and his hands, " teaching and preaching. " He was one the vol unteers tor service at Savannah dur ing the yellow fever epidemic at that place some years ago and his work tth'ere will be . long remem bered ' . gratefully , by the peo ple of that city. We have the pleasure of his acquaintance. We visited at his home in McClenny in the early- part of last year and we saw there some Uttie of the good work he is. aocomplishing.
