Reinforce ments were obtained, and on June 15th a night attack was made by twenty-live whites, assisted by three hundred and fifty natives. Th e Democratic National Commit tee spent over $100,000 in printing. It distributed over 15,000,D00 copies of documents, and sent 2,000 speak ers throughout the country to en- ighten the people on the subject of tariff reform and other vital issues of the hour. To this must be added the work done by the various State committees, which printed and dis tributed as many pamphlets as the National Committee, besides hand ling an even larger number of their own speakers. The most widely circulated and popular document sent out by the National Committee was the President's tarifi reform message of last December. It was so plainly worded and so admirably written that it was easy for all classes to get right down tothemeat of the thing after one careful read ing. About 2,000.000 copies of the message and 500,000 copies of the national platform were printed in twelve different languages. There were English. German, French Spanish, Swedish. Italian, Polish, Hungarian, Bohemian, Hebrew, Welsh and Danish. In addition to the President's message there was also printed in French the speech delivered at -Port Huron; Mich., by Senator Thurman. aiul it met with a large demand from French people a it i m an over tne country, mere were also 2UO.0O0 copies printed in Eng lisii. This was th only speech by Thurmau circulated by tionai Committee. Italy sons in New York and in cut, Indiana and Illinois nishetl with severa sand copies of the in Italian. The Hungarian and Bo hemian documents were circulated mainly in New York city. The He brew reprints were distributed among the Jews of New York, and in addition, 50,000 copies ot a pam phlet of especial interest to the Polish Jews employed in the "sweat ing" clothing factories in the east side of New York city were circu lated. In fact the message served as the text of the Democratic cam paign from the start. When it was first printed the committee had no idea that there would arise such a universal demand for the document as has occurred. The speeches de livered in Congress by Messrs. Roger Q. Mills, William L. Scott and Speak er Carlisle on the Mills bill were cir culated to the extent of over 1,500, 000 copies. The demand for Scott's speech was greater than for those of the other two gentlemen. Irby Prophylactic Fluid. Use it in every sick room.
