Lippitt, of Baltimore, is here on a visit, for the first time in nearly three years. The chaplain of Congress seems to pray hard enough, but still he does no good; not so with Dr. Bull; his cough syrup has never failed to cure the most stubborn cough and cold. Too Easy a Time The Y. M. C. A. Committee on Visiting the Sick are .having too easy a time. No one will tell them of cases needing attention, so the blame for their idleness can't be laid at their door They would fhaak their friends to tell them of any cases they know of. If this state of things continues they will be saying with the physicians ere long, "It's dis tressingly healthy." When "Patience" Will be Produced. The Wilmington Amateurs will meet this evening at Capt. Jno. L. Boat wright's residence. They are progressing rapidly in their rehear . sals. It has now been definitely de termined to present the piece on Friday night, the 28th inst. There will be a fine array of musical talent in the cast. A number of young lady vocalists who have been ab sent from the city have returned and will assist in the production. After the above was in type Mr. E. P. Boatwright, the Manager, re quests us to state that the meeting of the Wilmington Amateur Opera Co. has been postponed from to night until Monday night. All mem bers will please take notice. The Late Capt. Parker. A touching and feeling tribute to the memory of the late Capt. Win. M. Parker, of this city, was offered at the Conference on the closing day of the session by Rev. E. A. Yates, D. D. No one was better qualified to speak of the life and labors of the lamented gentleman than Dr. Yates, Capt. Parker's pastor and friend. Remarks were also made by Rev. W S. Creasy, Rev. F. D. Swindell and Rev; N. A. Hooker, after which the minute was adopted and ordered spread on the journal. Cotillion Club. The Wilmington Cotillion Club held a meeting last night at the Or ton, and elected the following offi cers for the ensuing year: President Geo. W. Kidder. . Vice Presidents F. W. It was suggested to the Governing Committee that an entertainment be given during. the Christmas holN days, if practicable. A Dickens of a Party. So succpssful was the first presen tation of "The Dickens Party" at the City Hall some weeks ago that there has since been a steady and continued demand for its repetition and to meet this demand, tt will be held again at the Opera House to morrow night. Some of the best musical talent in the city will assist on this occasion and new and at tractive features will be introduced. Fully one hundred of Dickens' most famous characters will be represent cd in full costume. Refreshments will be served in the City Hall, to which easy access may be had from the Opera House. There will be a full dress rehearsal to-night at the Opera House. Peudev County Commissioners. The new Board of County Com missioners met at Burgaw on Mon day. Present, J. T. Foy, A. C. Moore and H. The cautionary Northwest signal was ordered ; up here last night at 10:40. There was a storm passing to the Northeast, off the Jersey coast, at the time, i -The . signal remained up all night and has been up all day but there have as yet been no high winds. ' . For Adjutant General. Adjutant-General Jones, it is said, wiil have, several competitors for the position he now holds. The candidates mentioned are Col Cot-ten,- of thVFirst Regiment, and CoL Glenn, of the Third. Maj Campbell is said to be aiso a candidate but not making any particular fight for the place. The appointment will be made bv Gov. Fowle. Change of Schedule Train No. 15, on the Wilmington, Columbia & Augusta railroad, leav ing here at 2.45 p.m., will be dis continued after Sunday next. The train now arriving here from the North at 7.40 p. m., and leaving for the South at 8.03 p. m., will arrive at 6.00 and leave at 6.25 p. m., for the North. Marriage Bells. Mr. Joseph M. King was happily married last night to Miss Lizzie Farrow, a beautiful and accomplish ed young lady, daughter of Mr. Benjamin Farrow of this city. The cremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Harvey, at the Second Advent Church, which was crowded with those who had assembled to witness the interesting event. The bride was attired in a handsome garnet silk dress and , wore a white bridal veil. From the church the bridal party drove to the residence of the groom's father, where a reception was held. The presents were num erous and some of them were very handsome. Attempted. Suicide. A young man by the name of F. T. Bizzell, . mail agent - on the C C. R. R., who is only 17 years old, at tempted to commit suicide last night, about 6 o'clock, at the Cen tral Hotel in Charlotte. He shot himself in the head. The ball struck on the bones between the right eye and ear, and ranged downward, lodging on the left side of the neck. He had previously tried,but in vain, to buy laudanum from a Charlotte druggist. The wound is not neces sarily fatal but the physicians would not express an opinion last night. The young man hils from Laurin burg and his father probably readi ed his bedside this morning. No motive is ascribed for the act but it is said that the lad had been drink ing freely during the afternoon. A note was found in his room address ed to his father, in which he claimed that he was crazy, but after the shooting the young man persisted, in claiming that it was accidental. The Diocesan Standnj; Committee. The following business was trans acted at the meeting of the Stand ing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, held yes terday: Rev. Frederick N. Skinner, dea con, was recommended for admis sion to the Order of Priests. Mr. William James Herritage, a candidate for orders, was recom mended for admission to the Order of Deacons in the Diocese of East Carolina. Consent ws given to the conse -p ration oif Rev. The Germania Band are practic-" ing every night now for the grand concert which is to be given by them in this city on next Tuesday evening at Luther Memorial Hall.
