Two Car Load. Dropping in at Front street mar ket to-day we were at once attracted by the unusually handsome display made by Mr. Jno. F. Garrell. He has received two car loads of fine beef this week, one from Western North Carolina and the other from Southwestern Virginia. They are both so good that it is hard to choose between them. There is hard ly any better beef offered anywhere in the United States to-day. There is this difference, however. The best of it sells here for 15 cents, whereas the same beef would sell in Balti more or New Yrork Ar 22 to 28 cents per pound. Some, of these beeves weigh 1,500 pounds each. The Marionettes. The Opera House was fairly pack ed last night with the immense audience which gathered there to attend the second appearance in this city of the Royal Marionettes. Everybody was delighted, for it is good show, well put on tne stage and is certainly worth the admission charged. The leading prizes were a dinner set, to T. Webb; coin silver watch, R. E. L. Cook; chamber set, 12 pieces, Nellie Chesnutt, colored; bronze studio lamp, W. L. Weldon, colored; dessert set, Miss Mamie Davis;plush dressing case, Ft Lafare. To night the leading presents will be a coin silver watch, a dinner set, 50 pieces; chamber set, 12 pieces; a barrel of best flour; dessert set, 24 pieces; large plush shaving set; be sides 150 other elegant presents. The Coneert Last Night. The Concert given last night by the Germania Concert Band, in the Luther Memorial Building, was an event which will long be remember ed in musical circles here. There was a very large audience and every seat, including chairs placed in the ailes, was filled early in the evening. The Band displayed a remarkable degree of efficiency and improve ment. The overture was very finet anexcellentselection and beautifully rendered. The zither solo, by Prof. Fredericks, was a spirited perfor mance and held the closest attention of the large audience. This gentle man is, without doubt, the finest performer on this instrument we have ever heard. The piano solo by Miss Eliza Adria a was an exquisite performance and called forth rap. turous applause. Another gem was Miss Minnie Scharwz' vocal solo, sung by her in German, with a clear, distinct enunciation. She has an exouisite voice, pure, clear and full and well cultivated. The cornet Solo by Prof. Schloss, with the band ccompaniament, was well rendered, and shows h wonderful progress luSiie by them of late. One of the best things in the pro gramme was the vocal quartette bjT Misses Jllliuue ociiftrwt ouu a-j j Knobloch and Messrs. Jno. H,. Knek ;and Paul M. Robert Rufus Bridgers were observed this morning, the funeral services taking place at St. James Ctiurch and the interment at Oak dale It was a sad and impressive occasion and was attended by thou sands. We have never yet known a larger outpouring of the people at the-funeral of any one in this city. The church was thronged to its ut most capacity. The members of the two Exchanges attended in a body as did the officers and employes of the two roads in this city and at Florence. These formed in two Jranksat .he offices of the companies, eorner Front and Red Cross street, and marched down Front street to Market and up Market to the church. They were in two ranks and when the right of the line was halted on the crossing on the East side of Third street, the left had not turned into Market street. They were in two ranks, marching with an interval of about three feet, and there were therefore about 000 men in the line. The services at the church were conducted by the Rector, Rev. .Rob ert Strange, assisted by Rev. Dr. Huske, of Fayetteville, the Bishop, who was present, repeating the prayer. The music was exceedingly impressive. A long, line of car riages, containing the family and relatives and connections, and an immense concourse on foot followed the remains to their last resting place beneath the quiet shades at Oakdale. The following gentlemen were the active pall-bearers, viz: Messrs. "P Glavin, M. Griffin, John Fitzgerald, R. A. Southerland, J. T. Garvey, D. M. Morecock, J. G. Kornegay and Thad. Dale. The honorary pall bearers were Dr. W. George Thomas, Hon. George Davis, Mr. Donald McRae, Mr. D. G. Worth, Mr. H. Walteis, Capt. Jno. F. Divine, Capt. James Knight, Dr. A. J. DeRosset, Mr. Isaac Bates, Hon." Charles M. Stedman, Hon. O. P. Meares, Col. F. W. Kerchner, Col. Jno. B. Palmer, Maj. Fred E. Scott and Dr. E. Burke Haywood. The Two Exchanges. A joint meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Produce Exchange was held at the rooms of the latter body yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock to take action in regard to the death of Hon. K. R. Bridgers. The meeting was called to order by Mr. H. C. McQueen, President of the Produce Exchange, who stated the purpose for which it was called and requested Mr. F. W Kerchner,. Presiden t of the Chamber of Commerce to preside. Mr. Kerchner, on taking the chair, said that a committee, consisting of Dr. A. J. DeRosset, Mr. D. G. Worth and Mr. J. H. Chadbourn, had been requested to prepare suitable reso lutions, and Dr. DeRosset, in be half of the committee, submitted the following: We, the members of the Chamber of Commerce and of the TProduce Exchange of this city, called togeth er in joint meeting to mourn the death of one of our most honored and distinguised , members, desire to place on record this testimonial to the memory of the Hon. Robert R. Bridgers, long associated with us, and always among the foremost in every effort to pro mote the welfare and advancement of our city and State. The univer sal shock and grief of our entire community at the announcement of his' sudden death at Columbia, S. GM on the evening of Dec. 10th, testify to the high estimation in which he was held by "our people of every class and pursuit in this community. Prominent and successful in early life in the legal profession and i commercial and financial eiffairs in other parts of pu.r State he' was dur ing lie Jour years of our civil war qn earnest and influential member of the Confederate Congress, and in 1865 became a citizen of Wilmington at the head of that great corpora tion the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad Co. On motion, it was ordered that the proceedings of the meeting be spread upon the minutes of both bodies, that a copy be transmitted to the family of the deceased, and that the rooms of the Exchange b draped in mourning for thirty days. A resolution was also adopted that the members tf both bodies attend the funerar in a body. National Festival. The ladies of Grace M: E.
