J Against the blazing sky.
xne trees stoou up m the sunset
? As the wind went wandering by.
Crimson, and goldand russet;
And a drifting tiaze of rain
Caught up in the western glory,

Just so, when life is sinking
To the t wilight time of tears.

He was young and inexperienc

The One Impediment Removed.
'If there is any person present,"
said the minister, with dne solemn
ity, .''who knows just cause or im
pediment why this woman should
not be married to this man. let him
speak now or forever after hold his
peace." j
4 "I don't think anybody will put
in any objections, parson!" said the
stalwart younglArizona bridegroom,
Mr. Roundup, as he laid his hand
casually on the butt of his revolver
and looked carelessly around the
room. "The only impediment I
know of was a young feller by the
name of Lariat, and I cleaned him
out yesterday. And now, if you wilt
go ahead, parson, and finish up this
job, Miss Kacktus and me are
waiting." Chicago Tribune.
Helping: Him Out.
An unkind story, even if true,
told me while I was in England
was
of a
young lady who married a stutter
in ir man.
The young man was undoubtedly
a stutterer of the most positive or
der, for 1 have heard him go through
paroxysms to get out a simple
"Good morning." The lady whom
he subsequently married was of an
eminently practical turn of mind.
No luaiden modesty or bashfulness
cloyed her methods. She spoke to
the point, and never left a thought
unexpressed if she deemed it pertin
ent. After he had called upon her
some three or four times she decided
that it was about time for her to
know his intentions. So the next
time he called, after they had
etl themselves as usual on the
she said quietlv, but firmly:
seat;
sofa,
"Mr.
Smith, I am very much flattered by
the interest you have taken in me,
and the flowers you have just given
me are very pretty, but I feel that I
should not do my duty if I delayed
any longer asking you what your
intentions are: whither fdo these at
tentions and presents lead?"
Young Mr. Smith rose to his feet
and a blush rose to his cheek. He
essaye l to speak. For a momeut
his lips and tongue seemed paralyz
ed. Then he managed to get out
M-M M-M-My d d-d d d" but he
could get no .further. The d might
have stood for any numberof words,
but Miss Smith justifiably, perhaps,
interpreted it to siand f ar darling,
and the youth's acute embarrasment
to a modest confesion in making a
formal proposal.
, Any way, she took Mr. Smith by
the hund and looking into Ins eye
exclaimed: "Mr. Smith, 1 appre
ciate vour embarrassment, but 1 un
derstand what vou wish to sav. ou
may speak to papa, and if he ap
proves so do I".
They were married a few months
later, but "Mr. Smith has never ex
plained satisfactorily to his friends

mony of his own free will or against
