Excellent Interest ItiileR. The following has been handed to us for publication "by a gentleman in this city, who has carried it with him as a "pocket piece" for some time pasl. It is worthy of being preserved for ready reference: r The answer in each case being in cents, separate,, the two right hand figures of the answer to express in dollars and cents. - , - Four per cent Multiply the prin cipal by the number of days to tun. Separate right hand figure from the product and divide by nine. Five per cent Multiply by num ber of days and divide by. seventy two. Six per cent Multiply by number of days, separate right hand figure and divide by six. i; - Eight per cent Multiply by num ber of days and divide by fortv-five. Nine per cent Multiply by" num ber ofdays, separate right hand figure and divide by four. Ten per cent. Multiply by num ber of days and divide by thirty-five. Twelve per cent Multiply by number Of days, separate right hand figure and divide by three. To find the time in, which sum pf money will double itself at a certain rate of interest, divide seventy-two by the rate of interest, and the result vill be the number of years. Eor example, at four percent, money will Rouble " m eighteen years: at eight per cent it doubles in iiine years. : This rule is cprrecYto wiqin a fraction "ofb year ' -HH- rates from three p,e cent npward-'.We are hadebtedior this to. fri Fackler, the well-Q9wij actuary. -,1 ; 'Bat one interment, an adult, in thisjweek, none in Bellevue A nd'none in Pine Forest. - How is this for health? During the past week, in thecity of Wil mingtoh, , with a "populat ion of 25,000 souls, there has been but one death. The basket festival given last evening at the residence - of Mrs Pigford, on North Front street, was an exceedingly delightful affair. There was a large attendance and about $G0 were'realized for the : ob ject itvview, the lecture- room fund of thtl First Baptist Cliurch 1 ' . . '.'From Sire to Son." Notwithstanding the fact that he appears here on Saturday evening Milton Nobles will draw together a large knd fashionable audience at the Opera House this evening, as is al ready indicated by the box - sheet. "From Sire to Son" is said to be a good piece and a drawing piece and is worthy of the success accorded it. The situations are interesting some are thrilling and the play: affords a fine seope for Mr. Nobles' versatile talant. He is," besides, sustained by a good company. The New . York , World succeeds admirably in mixing up things. "Belle Boyd,' the female Confed erate scout, is an altogether different personage from Belle Starr, the famous female highwayman who was recently foully murdered. Tho former was a Virginian and the latter hails from the great -Southwest, Texas, we think. Belle Boyd, the last we heard of her. had. married a physician and had settled down to a quiet, pri vateiif e. She was a heroine and not a thief, and there is a wide distinction between the two, what ever the veracious World may think. Belle Starr was never in Virginia. She. was 35 years old when k ill ed and hence was bat 12 years old when the war closed. Hoit Pleasure and Iuty "Work Together. We all know that every precaution mustbe takeri;to preserve the health of our city this year, and the doctors all tell us one very necessary thing is to have clean, sweet beds, and that mattresses, on which w,e spend one third our time,OHght to be frequent ly renovated and made over. Now; fortunately, nothing is so enjoyable as a newly renovated hair or moss Huattress. It is better than a new one. All this being so, how impor tant that all should have their old mattresses made over, or buy new OHes, while the weather is yet cold, especially where" there v has been sickness." Our townsman, Mr. W. M, Cumming, Xwho still advertises in the name of "Howell & Cum' ming,") will take pleasure in doing all such work,: and we assure our readers that he does it right and'will make yonr mattress.es to jit.
