Katz has introduced, at his dry goods store on Market street, a new system for the delivery of parcels and payment of goods. It is known as the "Reversible Wire Parcel andCashSystem"and is made by the Lampson Store Service Com pany. Goods when purchased are placed in baskets, attached to the system, accompanied by the money which is sent rapidly along a wire to the cashier's desk. Here it is re ceived, the goods are taken out, wrapped in paper and the change is made, the whole being returned to the point from which it is sent more rapidly than the goods could be wrapped and the change made by the salesman. It is a beautiful sys tern, works rapidly and noiselessly and an error is next to impossible. There is but one other system like this in the State and that is at Char lotte. Chamber of Industry. The meeting of the Board of Di rectors of the Chamber of Industry spoken of by us yesterday, was held lest night in the Mayor's office. Mr. John D. Bellamy, Jr., presided. The election of a president was deferred until the next regular meeting of the Chamber, to be held Monday night at the City Hnl. Mr. Bellamy was requested to appoint a legisla tive committee of seven to draft and report bills to be sent to the Legis lature one, to encourage the ! es by tabhshment of new industries exempting them from taxation for a term of years, and another to amend tare illustrated. the law regarding assignments so j He comes here direct from RaN as to require assignees to give bond, j eigh, where he has just completed a and requiring assignees, ulso, to number of courses, receiving a vote render accounts to the courts. The j of thanks at the close of the last lec committee appointed will be an 1 ture from the distinguished audi nounced in due time, and notice ence present, including the clergy, will be given of their meeting so j teachers of the public and private thai persons interested can attend I schools. He came to Wilmington in October, 1853, andYesided here continuously until 1875 or 1876, when he removed to Maine. While here he establish ed a very successful school, which was for many years kept in the building Northeast corner of Chest nut and Secontl streets, now occu pied by Dr. Thos. F. Wood, which was known as the"Wilmington Male and Female Seminary.!' Mr. Jewetfs wife and daughter survive him. A souvenir of the Fever. Rev. F. W. E. Peschau returned a few days since from a visit to vari ous points South of us. He went as far as Jacksonville, Fla., whither he went on business and where he re ioained for several days. While in that city he saw Mr. E. Gr. Whitney and family on several occasions. Mr. Whitney, it will be remembered, is from this city and removed South several years ago, first to Ocala and afterwards to Jacksonville. He re mained with his family in the latter city during the entire period of the yellow fever epidemic last Summer and saw all of the horrors of that fearful time. Each of his children, if we remember rightly, was afflicted with the dread disease. He gave Mr. Peschau a souvenir of that bar rowing period in the shape of a small square of yellow cloth, which was one of the flags used to mark the location of those who were suf fering with the fever. This flag is now at Capt. Jas. B. Muggins' store, on Market street. Capt. Huggins is Mr. Whitney's brother-in-law, and to him the . flag was sent at the hands of Mr. Peschau. It is a relic of a terrible time and has been view ed with interest by many. A Rare Opportunity. As may be seen by advertisement in our columns to-day, Prof. Alonzo Tripp, the well known lecturer on Europe, may be expected to give shortly in our city a course of his historic portraitures on recenjb Eu ropean events and celebrities with personal reminiscences of the prom inent actors, including the great Paris revolution of February and June, 1848, of which he was an eye witness: also, the momentous East ern question, .illustrated by large Colored maps. Prof. Tripp has made a life yoxK of his great theine, and has deliver ed his series with preeminent sue cess in all parts of the country. I It now goes from the Senate to the i House and there is good reason for believing that it will also pass that body. There are friends of the bill in Raleigh watching it closely and doing all they can t6 further its passage. We think, from what we hear, that it will get through the House also in a few days. Personal. Mr. -Louis Shrier, of Norfolk, isj here on a short visit to his brothers, J Messrs. A. and I. Shrier. Messrs. L. Vollers. of Point Cas well, and O. O. Vollers, of L.aurin burg, were in the city to-day. Mr. W. J. Prufer. of Richmond, was here to-day, in company with his brother-in-law, Mr. O. O. Vollers. of Laurinburg. Mr. E. Kuhblank ran up to Golds boro yesterday to meet his wife, who returned last night from a visit to her brother in Washington City. We were pleased to receive a visit to day from Prof. Alonzo Tripp, who will shortly lecture in this city on France and Europe since 1848. Prof. Tripp was in Wilmington in 1876 and lectured here and at other points in this State. He was cordially re ceived and endorsed by the papers in this city and at Goldsboro and Raleigh, and by such eminent gen tlemen as Prof. Phillips, of Chapel Hill, Dr. Eugene Grissoin, of Ral eigh, and others.
