town built a log hut, which they
chinked with clay, making it as

That Beautiful Snow.
Yesterday's snow was pretty gen
eral. It extended West to the moun
tains and North to Richmond. At
Raleigh there was 5 inches, at Char
lotte 5 and at Shelby 6. It was the
hardest snow we have had here in
ten years. It ceased about 6 o'clock
and rain then began to fall. Had
the snow fallen on a frozen earth
there would probably have been
four or five inches of it here. We
found it on a level nearly two inches
d,eep, This morning there was not
a trace of it left; not even snowy
slush. It had all gone and the rain
had taken its place.

A temporary organization was then
effected by calling Mr. Geo. Chad- j
bourn to the eihair and requesting ;
Mr. J. S. Mitchell to a4t as Seere- j
