Since the fact that consumption is both preventable, and in its earliest stage curable, it has lost much of its terror. If the first symptoms are at once recognized, and the proper remedy applied, very few, if any one, need die of consumption, which is really lung-scrofula. Like many other diseases this formidable one grows out of impure blood, and this, in turn, from a diseased liver. Hence we have the hacking cough, the pains in chest, the inflamed lungs and all the symptoms of hastening consumption, all the result of de praved blood and a diseased liver. The use of Dr. Pierce's Golden Med ical Discovery will arrest all such symptoms, restore the liver to healthy action, and send streams of pure blood into every organ. Of druggists. An old colored woman, who is evidently insane, has been encount ered by several persons during the past few days, on the turnpike not far from the city. On Saturday she was seen lying near the road and yes terday she was found prostrate in the road, her garments all covered with lime dust. She refuses all proffers of aid. She is probably insane and the authorities should look into the matter. City Court The following cases were disposed of by the Mayor today: J. H. To-Nlffht. At the Opera House to-night Miss Prescott and Mr. McLean, a double headed star attraction, will appear in the most beautiful play Virgin ius. These artists have been seen here before in other plays and our people may look for a- rare treat. Speaking of the recent appearance of this attraction in Forth Worth, the Gazette says: For so young an actor as McLean to essay so difficult a role as that of Virginius among a people with whom the memory of John McCullough is a recent treasure, and the recollec tion of Edwin Forrest still fresh, requires a great deal of that nerve which comes from a knowledge of the possession of ability: to succeed in giving even a tolerably satisfac tory interpretation is a victory; to win the applause of the people and the rich encomiums of the critics is a triumph. It takes the last taimi to fitly describe the success of Mr. McLean. He gives an interpretation of Virginius that is as stroner, as tender as anything that has been seen in this generation. Of Miss Prescott's Virginia top much cannot be said in praise, It was graceful, sveet, girlish, woman ly, There was an ineffable charm in everything she said and did that made her pleasing always. The character is a difficult one to draw the line between the too err eat weak ness of the girl and too great LifuKm ui vmc woman, -aut miss Piesoott drew it with a hand so steady, U SRiH o sure as to uiaVethe character neither the one nor the other. 't To morrow afternoon a apeeial matinee wiU Ua given, when Ingo map will be presented. Doors will open at 2 o'clock and the curtain will rise at 3 o'clock. At night Ue last appearance will be presented- which has proved so satisfactory and will very soon begin the erec tion of a fine building for its central station. Belford's for March. There is a lot of good matter in Beford's Magazine for March, nota bly a good story, "A Young Girl's Ideal," by Miss Julia Magruder, and "A Couple of Vagabonds," by James V. Steele. Among the soldier pa pers are "Wealth and Its Conse quences, by N. G. Parker, and. "The Cost of Things," by "X." "Novel ists on Novels" contains short let ters in which a number of novelists name their favorite works of fiction. The article is curious and instruc tive. The editorial departments oc cupy a great deal of space, and this month, as usual, they are ably filled. Colonel Piatt's own special depart ment bristles with suggestive titles and pointed paragraphs. The sub jects are "The Sale of the Presi dency," "Vacant Pews and Worried Pulpits," "The Infant Mind," and "The Truth About Samoa." In the latter the editor glances rapidly at Germany's various efforts at colonic zation, wonders at the apathy with which some of the stronger naval powers regard it and frees his mind about Bismarck. The novellette for the month is a fascinating story en titled "A Covenant With Death," by the author of "An Unlaid Ghost." It is published complete. BelfordCs is issued by Bedford, Clarke & Co., New York, at $2.50 a year. For Gov. Fowle's Entertainmeut. The special pommittee appointed for the entertainment of Gov.
