If successful, aadvye feelsure'it will be. it will be made a permanency. Th .Jute Butt Trust Knot. The indications now are that the backbone of the basrging trust has been broken right in two. The fol lowing tells about the sad accident, although particulars seem tueagre. We clip it from the Charleston News and Courier: A prominent merchant of this city. apropos of the bagging trust and the corner in jute butts, said yesterday that he did not think the farmers would have anything to fear from the baggiug manufacturers next season. Even if a bagging trust had been formed for the purpose of squeezing money out of the farmers he did not think that they would ac complish anything by it, because the farmers could retaliate by keeping their cotton bark and thus paralyze the state of trade. Besides, the present condition of the bagging market made such a thing practically impossible, for the reason that the manufacturers have been and are still selling freely to the merchants. This time last year they would sell him no bagging at all and he had even been refused it as late as May. The result was that the bagging was all kept back and the price went up as high as 124 cents per yard. This year, however, things were very different. The manufacturers were selling freely and he, as well as other merchants, had bought largely, the prevailing price being 9 cents a yard. With the bagging already distributed among the merchants it would be practically impossible for the trust to get up a corner and force the price up on the farmer. They Were Belated We had a good item yesterday about Mr. Cleveland's passing thro' Wilmington yesterday morning but we forgot to write it out. He stop ped at the depot here 20 minutes. There were not many there to see him and among the number but few prominent people. This was due to the fact that although the morning papers had spoken of the fact that he would pass through here yester day morning there was no mention of it in the Review of the afternoon previous. Otherwise he would un doubtedly have been greeted by a large crowd. One old lady rushed panting up to the train just before it pulled out and grasping the ex President by the hand she exclaim ed: "Mr. Cleveland, my name is - and I feel sure that we are related. I have some near connec -tions in your part of the country.1' "I haven't a doubt of it, madam," replied the ex-President gallantly, as he winked his eye at Miss S with whom he had just previously been conversing, "I am sure that I have a great many relatives with your name." Aud just then the train pulled out and left the old lady to her blissful reflections. ' The World's S. S. Convention. As has already been stated by us Messrs. George Chadbourn and John C. Davis, f this city, have, been chosen as two of the delegates to the World's Sunday School Con vention, which meets in London in July. It will be a notable gather ing of prominent Sunday School workers from all parts of the world. The American contingent will sail from New York in the dteamship Bothnia, of the Canard line, on Fri day morning, June 19fch, at 10 o'clock. The ship has been chartered for this especial purpose and will carry none but the delegates, and such imme diate relatives or friends as they may desire to accompany them. There are 401 delegates from this country, the representation being based upon the Congressional ap portionment as to the lower house. The party will all stop at the Mid. land Hotel, in London, arrange ments having already been made for about two months ami after the Convention has closed there will be bpnefit and excursion parties made; ft 6, 1889.
