Stop the congestion, the irritation ceases ana the cough is cured. But how to stop the congestion! Ah. there is Just where physicians nave always been puzzled. Some doctors give cod liver oil, others couga syrups, but the most advanced prescribe stim ulants. Nature must be assisted. Pure Whis key will do it. See what physicians say: Prof. Austin Flint, of Bellevue (New York) College, says: "The judicious use of alcoholic stimulants is one of the striking ehar?.cteris tica of progress in the practice of medicine during the last half century." Professor Henry A. Mott, of New York says: 'The purity of Duffy's Pure Malt Whiskey (as simple analytical tests will readily convince a physician or an expert) should certainly re commend it to the highest public favor." APRIL. 10. 1889 Entered at the Postoffice at Wilmington, N.c., Th r nmion i?ojvtnmit rmhlUhes ' The London l.co?wmist puDlisnes, a statement of the financial condi- i tion of ten Scottish cattle companies whose lands and herds are in our r x ri i m -x t Western States and Territories. I n 1837 not one of them paid a dm- rionri Tn i ass Uiim rf t.ht rin- panies declared dividends ranging from 50 cents to $1.25 per share, while the remaining seven, with one ex ception, increased their indebted ness. The Economist remarks that several of the companies "are still in very low water.11 The latest romance about Prince Alexander is that while he was the ruler of Bulgaria, he was always ! attended lv a; tall and handsome j " i jager, who never left him for a mo- ment and who on several ocaion8 j I 1 1 I I J KSKL kt L M 11 I J I 4 J UUU O.UJq' E j at great personal risk. A.t night the jager slept in the ante room of the royal chamber, and at least one plot to assassinate the Prince is said to have been thus frustrated. After the Prince left Bulgaria the jatrer disappeared, and it has since been discovered that the person was a woman, who was desperately in lov with the Prince and had sworn to protect him. All of the oranizationsand guests who are to apear in the centennial military parade at New Yor' on the 30th have accepted the positions as signed theiii except the (rrrfntl Army of the Republic. The regular Uni ted Btates troops head the process ion. and will be followed, according to the regular assignments, by the Governors and their militia escorts, and then by the Grand Army. This was the order at the inaugural pa rade last month. But prominent Graid Army men say it is an affront to the veterans to ask them to march behind State militia. Several army posts have entered protests against the assignments, but the committee decline to make any change, upon the ground that they are acting according to precedent. It is pretty evident from the talk among the veterans that the 10,000 promised will not be in line until parade day. The legislation proposed in Can ada and Mexico with resnect to the exclusion of American lard from those countries was suggested by the statements made while the mak ers of adulterated lard were quar relling with the manufacturers who do not use cotton seed oil. In reply to the proof that this'oil was large ly used as an adulterant, it was as serted that the makers- o; so-sailed pure lard sometimes need lmaterial that was repulsive. All the tricks of the trade were revealed, and the result was that our lard, whether adulterated or pure, has suffered in the estimation of importing coun tries. They are unwilling to pay for lard and get cotton seed oil, and they do not forget the assaults upon the makers of pure lard. The inter ests of our foreign trade would have been served if the manufacturers had sold their product honestly from the beginning. The consideration shown by both Mrs. Cleveland and Mrs. Folsom to servants, says the New York Sun, is a constant subject of grateful re mark among them. Neither lady ever gives an order. She asks to have her commission done. Nothing a servant ever does escapes the re ward of a s.mil3 and a "thank you.1' At the hotel where Mrs. Cleveland lives the servants are put to much work carrying cards and packages to her rooms, but never make coin plaint. It is related that, rather than summon the colored doorman to her when she wishes some extra commission executed, she sometimes saves him steps by going part way down the stairs to speak to him. On one occasion the doorman was al most dozing in his chair when a draught of air aroused him. He started up to find Mrs. Cleveland pushing the heavy door open softly. "Oh," she said, smiling to his apolo gies, "I am so sorry you waked. I saw you were asleep, and didn't want to spoil your nap just to let me in."' Electric Bitters.
