But how to stop the congestion! Ah. there Is just where physicians nave always been puzzled. But it must be checked, or pneumonia, quick consumption or some ternoie pulmonary disease win touow . Some doctors give cod liver oil, others cough syrups, but the most advanced prescribe stim ulants. Nature must be assisted. Pure Whis ke y will do it. See what physicians say: Prof. Austin Flint, of Bejlevue (Now York) College, says: "The judicious use of alcoholic stimulants is one of the striking characteris tics of progress In the practice of medicine during the last half century." Professor Henry A. Mott, of New York says: ''The purity of Duffy's Pure Malt Whiskey (as slmole analytical tests will readily convince a physician or an expert) should certainly re commend It to the highest public; favor." John of Abys sinia removes from earth the last of a noted line if the late King John told the truth. He claimed to be a direct descendant of King Solomon and the vivacious Queen of Sheba. Owing to the death of his sou by poison, King John left no issue. The extinction of a line going back to a long period before the late civil war will awaken regret among the Four Hundred of New York. A man like King John, who could claim a descent from so antique a leader as Solomon, Is a loss to society, in spite of the fact that he was a cold blooded wretch. Judge Grresham has recommended the appointment of Judge Brown, of the United States District Court of Michigan, as the successor of Stan ley Matthewson ttteSnpreme Bench, and Judge Brown also has the en dorsement of most of the leading lawyers in the northern portion of the circuit. Michigan has never had a man on the Supreme Bench, while Ohio has had seven, and it is believed that the coming appoint ment will go to the former State Oien. Harrison has intimated that he had a man in his mind for the place, but he has not yet indicated who he is. Sage ad vice to a cook cannot go mueh bevond turkey stufling. Successful Business Men. !, Who are our most successful busi ness men? Cioout on the street and look them over. You won't find them men who have pale cheeks. Thev are not thin, emaciated men. They are not nervous, irritable men. Thev are men whose faces indicate robust health. Men with good blood and plenty of it. That's the secret of their success. A man whose blood 1s thin and weak and poisoned with impurities, is never successful like his healthy neighbor. Yon can't expect him to be, for without rich, strong, nourishing blood he will lack the "vim'" and ''push11 which the man must have who would succeed. Such men should use Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical. Discovery to restore their impoverished blood to its nor mal condition. By the use of this great blood purifier and bdilder up of the system, they may put them selves in a condition which will en able them to win the success they are anxious to achieve. -- The German Emperor has started an elaborate daily "Court Circular," which he edits himself. The vacancy in the House of Com mons occasioned by the death of John Bright has brought political confusion to Birmingham. The To ries invited Lord Randolph Churchill to run as their candidate; the Lib eral Unionists put up Mr. Bright's son, John Albert Bright, and the Gladstonian candidate is Phinson Beale, a barrister. The candidacy of Churchill would have been con sidered a biow at Lord Salisbury, administered by his own partisans. Churchill, however, refuses to run, although this decision was not prompted by a desire to spares the feelings of Lord Salisbury. John Bright's district has never been can vassed on the home rule issue, and there is naturally great interest in the outcome of the pending contest- The Eiffel tower, now complete at Paris, is the highest structure ever reared by human hands, being 1,178 feet high, or over twice as high as our great monument at Washington. The electric light at its summit will be visible for forty miles, and it will be strong enough to enable a per son to read a newspaper at the dis tance of seven miles. The French are beating us in 4iig-" things. Their Panama ( -anal and their cop per syndicate were far ahead of us and now their monster tower puts us out of sight. It is said that they built it to induce us to visit their grand exposition this summer. AN ter they have thus gathered in onr shekels they propose next to have the biggest revolution of this cen tury, abolish parliamentary govern- J ment and yet remain a republic all extraordinary exploits. We tried all these thimrs some years ago with but trifling success, and cannot re commend them. Of two things we can boast, however, without fear one is our pension expenditure, which is larger than that of all the rest of the world put together, and our tariff tax, which rivals Eiffel's work in height. 1 vjtWf.
