London has become recognized as
the great clearing house for all
European thieves who operate on a
large scale. The proceeds of any
great robbery committed in Europe,
which are sought to be restored
through negotiations, are always
sent to be delivered in London, and
there is as yet no legal way to
put a stop to the traffic.
A French missionary gives a seri

in Ecuador. Though it is not a legal
institution, yet the law permits an
Indian to sell himself as a slave
when he is unable to pay his debts
and once a slave he is rarely able to
free himself. He may be bequeath
ed by will. The majority of the In"
dians in the interior have been re
duced to this condition.

The Injury to Dr. Ennett.
We are sorry to hear of a painful
accident sustained by Dr. W. T.
Ennett at Garysburg while on his
way to the annual meeting of the
State Medical Society at Elizabeth
City. He was seated in his room ear
ly in the morning and had a hemor
rhage and fainted from loss blood.
He was near the fireplace at the
time and fell with his feet in it and
when found they were painfully
burned. He was brought back to
the city, arriving here last evening.
He suffered a great deal during the
night but to-day is somewhat eas
ier. We most sincerely trust that no
serious results will follow.
Coast Line Truck Train.
The Atlantic Coast Dispatch for
the movement of Southern fruits
and vegetables to the Northern
markets went into operation Mon
day night, and the running of the
trains will be continued daily Until
the close of the produce season. The
service now includes two daily all
rail trains to New York, one from
Charleston and Yonge's Island and

They Will Raise the Money.
The Y. M. C. A. met last evening
and 42 new members were enrolled,
making a total membership now of
410. A resolution was offered that
the young men of the Association
raise $4,000 to supplement the efforts
of the business men's committee in
raising $25,000 for the new building.
A plan was presented, proposing
that 100 young men subscribe $25,
100 $10, and 100 $5, making a total of
$4,000.
The list was started off with nine
subcriptions of $25 each. Some dis
cussion relative to plans of proce
dure was had, when it was resolved
that a special business meeting be
held Friday night, at which time
progress on the new plan should be
reported.

The Trnck Market.
There has been a decline in prices
in the truck market in New York.
We quote from a circular as follows:
Choice Florida cabbage sell from
$1.50 to $2 a barrel; Charleston and
Savannah $1 to $1.50. Peas, Savan
nah, $3 to $3.50 a crate; Florida 50
cents to $1. Anything in the way of
fancy beans from Savannah . would
now command high prices, in the
neighborhood of about $5 to $0 per
crate. Florida spring beans are
worth from $2.50 to $3.50. Beets
$1.25 to $1.75. Tomatoes scarce and
wanted, and strictly prime stock
will bring from $3.50 to $4.50 a crate,
and from that down to $2, according
to quality and condition.
Asparagus has continued plenty
from bothCharleston'andNorthCaro
Una and prices easier. Very irreg
ular stock varies widely in quality.
Choice colossal Charleston $5.50 to
$6 per dozen; prime $3.50 to $4.50.
The arrivals of new potatees from
the South continue moderate and
prices range all the way from $6 to
$9 per barrel, although a few very
choice marks have been placed a
shade higher.
A few Charleston strawberries
have already appeared in the mar
ket, but they are largely small and
green, and do not command the at
tention of buyers as compared with
Florida berries. Prices range from
15 to 28 cents per quart for the for.
mer and Florida 20 to 30 cents.
Fancy Indian River oranges, se
lected sizes, $4 to $4.50 per box;
brights, mixed, $3 to $4; russeis, se
lected, $3 to $3.50; mixed counts $2
to $3.
