1 so THEWOE$ OFWDMENr Weariness, lTnhappinea, and Misery Seem to be the Tot of Women InHteail of Brightness, Happiness, and Joy The Causes of Bad Complexion Ex plained. "Why Is it that so few American women have good complexions?" asked Mrs. Laqgtry on her tifst visit to America. Her question can he easily answered. Women are sallow be cause the blood does not circulate well through their bodies. It does not All their cheeks wl h rich color and their eyes with brilliancy. It is "sluggish." What is the result? Bad color, weariness and poor health. What will prevent this? A gentle and pure stimulant that im parts strength, life and good circulation. This is precisely what Duffy's Pure Malt Whiskey does. It is not a beverage; it is a healthy-giving remedy. It is admitted to have done moie In making ladies stronger and healthier than any other preparation known to the world. It, has the endorsement of clergymen, physicians and lady workers in the temperance cause, and It has never been known to fail in strength enipg, restoring and benefiting. A well known lady, writing on the subject, said: "lean never describe the change that has taken place in my appearance and in my feel ings. Inst ead of feeling tired and 'blue' as I once did, I am now strong and young, both In feeling and appearance. I had a great- preju dice against the word 'Whiskey,' but since I have found that Duffy's is indeed a pure and harmless remedy I feel like letting all women know what a grand help it is." The experience of this lady his been verified in thousands or cases, ana an innumerauie number of women are kept in perfect health to-dav wholly through this great remedy. 10 all purchasers we desire to say: "Be sure and secure the genuine and take no otfiek." It is sold everywhere. jmSCEIilANKOOS. HUMPHREYS5 YETERINABY SPECIFICS For Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Dogs, Hogs, ANI POULTRY. 500 Pake Book on Treatment of Animals 1 and Chart Sent Free. CUBES j Fevers. Jamks, Editor & Prop'r. Wilmington. N. C. -. SATURDAY. MAY 11. 1839.: Entered at the rostofflce at Wilmington, N.C., as second-class matter. A reporter of the New York Sun ' , , x, ..... saw Mr. Cleveland ieave the review ing sfand during the Centennial pa rade the moment the Buffalo com panies appeared, and that journal, which shines for all but does not always throw light upon all the facts, proceeds to insinuate that the ex-President intended to insult the soldiers from his old home. The Buffalo Courier sa ys that Mr. Cleve land did leave the reviewing stand at the moment mentioned, that lie joined the ranks with the Buffalo boys and inarched in line until he reached the Victoria, and was joined ilcony of that hotel by Mrs- on the bal Cleveland in tinif to salute the sol diers before they had passed out of sight. The Semi -Centennial of the Vrir giuia Military Institute, at Lexing ton, will be commemorated by ap propriate ceremonies on the 3d and 4th of July next. A large number of its graduates, scattered over the country, and meny of them occupy ing posts of honor and responsibili-1 ty, will be present and participate in the interesting exercises. Smith, learned and distinguished ednsatori has been its superint.nlent from its foundation in I83i to the present time. Aii analysis of the Treasury state ments, as made by the Financial Chronicle in its latest issue, shows that Mr. Wiridom s likely to think twice before he adopts or asks the President to recommend Senator Stewart's Nevada policy of doubling the coinage of silver under the authority given by the Allison Act. On January 1st the Treasury held, n round numbers, 1 000. 000 silver coin and bullion net. Since then there has been coined about. 12,000, 000, and on May 1st there were still 1 in the Treasury $21,000,000. In the words; of the Chronicle, "the accuui-. ulations in 1889 have been within about four millions of the entire coinage." This had been accom panied by a gradual but pretty steady return of silver dollars to the Treasury, the amount afloat having decreased in four months from $60, 779,321 to $55,647,772, or by a little more than $5,u00,000. It is, there fore, obvious that there is no room pi the channels of trade for any more of the coined dollars. Mr. Cfeorge B. Hopkins, of Jones, Kennett & Hopkins, who has re turned to New York from a South ern tour, says: kT am satisfied that the place to invest money in rail roads at this time is in the South. Many classes of bonds there selling at a discount are, with the future ahead of them, just as good as the high-priced bonds of Western roads. The future of the Southern roads is quite as assured as that of most of t he Western roads whose bonds are selling at handsome premiums.1' The New York Times, commenting on this statement, stiys: "Mr. Hopkins is a Western man and a shrewd observer. He belieres the future home of the cotton manufacturing industry will be in the South, here the cotton is grown. It is the simul taneous development of the manu- facturing and agricultural resources of that section hich is giving its railroads a yearly increasing busi1- ness, as witness the Louisville and Nashville, whose earnings are grow ing at a marvellous rate.'' There's a blessing in the bottle on whose label we can read Dr. Uierce's Favorite Prescription, for the woman who has need Of a remedy for troubles none but women ever know. 'Tis her best and truest friend, and happy thousands call it so, As they think of years of suffering that were theirs before it came, Bringing them the balm of healing, and they bless the very name of this wonderfully, and deservedly, popular remedy for the various ills woman is heir to.
